I would like to knit a cashmere hat from my MIL, who does not have long to live. I need a pattern that is a quick knit, and has lots of stretch. I do not know the exact size of her head, and really want to do this yesterday.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I only have 100grams of cashmere in two colors.

How about this (http://www.magknits.com/feb06/patterns/odessa.htm) or this (http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall07/PATTfoliage.html) or better yet, check out here (http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/hats.php)

I'm sorry to hear about your MIL and my best wishes go out to you and your family.

Best,
Susan

I've very sorry about your mother-in-law! Very sweet of you to want to do this. Try this one: http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Knitting/Projects/Accessories/LW1268+Gotcha+Covered+1.htm
This hat knits up quickly and isn't difficult and is given in a great range of sizes and yarn weights. I would use the adult woman's size. You don't mention your experience/skill level, but I would knit up a guage square on comfortable needles, find the closest guage in the patterns' list for those different weights, and then adjust your needles slightly to get it exactly and then use that set of numbers (when you look at the pattern, you'll see what I mean).

Thank you for the suggestions. My DH likes the "Love You Momma, Chemo Hat", so that is the one I will be making.
