I started this about a month ago, but I had to wait a week for new yarn to come in, so the whole thing took about 3 weeks to knit. It's made from KnitPicks Palette fingering weight, on #8 and 10.5 needles. It's about 6' (wingspan) and 3.5 feet long. It's for my grandmother, and she's extremely happy with it, as am I.

Here it is, pinned out for blocking.

Unpinned, and relaxing.

That's going to be one proud Gramma wearing that shawl. It is simply incredible. Pat yourself on the back. You deserve every bit of praise that is going to get you. Can you handle all the orders it is going to instigate? Once again, beautiful work! Congratulations.

That is absolutely beautiful! You did such a wonderful job. I really want to try lace knitting, but am a bit intimidated by it.

Thanks! Lace knitting really isn't that hard. It's broken down into strategically placed yarn overs and decreases. This shawl wouldn't be good for a beginner, because the directions are a bit vague in a few, sometimes crucial, areas. Try the Branching Out Scarf from www.knitty.com (http://www.knitty.com), or maybe Cheryl Oblere's Kimono Shawl from her book Folk Shawls. Elizabeth Zimmermann's Pi Shawl (pattern available from Schoolhouse press for $1).

Wow! I am really impressed. My goal is to some day knit something like that, but I am a little too chicken to try yet. I am going to do a lace washcloth to get my toes wet.
Congrats on the beautiful project!
