How long can felting take? I have a vest that I made years ago with yarn I bought about 20 years ago. I've never worn it because it's too large. I thought I'd try to felt it and see what happens. I'm trying to felt a swatch, and it's been in the wash over an hour and the stitches are still distinct. Is it time to give up? I don't have a label for the yarn. I didn't think they made superwash back then.

I've never had feltable yarn take an hour. Could it be acrylic? or may a wool blend with little wool?

I thought it was just wool. I had the pleasure of moth holes in one of the skeins at one point. The swatch that I tried to felt came out so soft and nice. I'll throw the vest in the wash at some point to see if maybe it shrinks a little. If not, I'll need to come up with another plan as to what to do with it. Could be a nice oversize vest for an extra layer around the house.
