hi, i'm new in this forum, i'd love some help :).
i'm knitting a simple stockinette stitch hat with what i thought would be a simple pattern.
the pattern is a norwigian flag flag[/IMG] (http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%AA%D7%9E%D7%95%D7%A0%D7%94:Flag_of_Norway.svg[/IMG]), and when i tried to knit the top to bottom stripe it all curled up in a pretty ugly way.
is there a better way to knit the stripe?

if your knitting a hat you need cables which is circular needles and i think you should be knitting the way you are

-Thank me if i helped :knitting:

Stockinette does tend to curl, it's just the way that stitch pattern behaves. How are you knitting this hat?

Once it's all done it should behave itself.

If you want to place a vertical stripe, you'll need to knit it intarsia style, rather than stranding the main color across the back of the stripe, if indeed that's what the problem is.

You'll need two strands of the background color--one that goes up to the stripe, the stripe will have it's own strand, and another background strand. Check out the video on intarsia knitting to see how you should twist the strands when changing colors to avoid holes.

This is another good site:
