Ok, I'm not a huggy sort of person as a rule, but I do enjoy one now and then.

They are quite a good thing. Glad you got them. There is something to be said for the human contact. I go through phases of how much I want to be hugged and so long as it isn't someone I don't know I am pretty good with it. A couple of girls with a sign saying free hugs were standing at the exit of the grocery store yesterday. Have to say I was glad to see they were gone by the time I left!

That's great, Mason! How about a virtual one..

ETA: I just remembered something...I was in the market shopping with DH several years ago and some random guy just came up and gave me a hug. I didn't say anything because I was shocked and speechless. My DH glanced back and saw what was happening, but didn't say anything. When the guy let go I must have looked shocked and kind of mumbled something and he said "Well, if you're going to advertise" and gestured to my sweatshirt. I dont remember what it said exactly, but it said something about a hug so I guess I asked for it. :teehee: DH said he figured I knew the guy so he didn't do anything. Anyway though that was amusing.

Even though I am not a hugs sort of person most of the time I really do like the whole free hugs movement. It's a really nice idea.

If you haven't seen it the video about it is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr3x_RRJdd4

The free hugs thing is world-wide.

I have to admit that I do tear up a little when I watch these videos. If only everyone would just hug everyone else how different would the world be?

Even as a non-huggy guy I like the idea and do enjoy a nice warm hug now and again. Honestly, most of my friends and I usually greet each other with a manly hug if we haven't seen each other in a while.

Not that we would admit that.

That free hug (the mexican one, not the chinese one) probably made more people's day than if they had won a lottery! I think that is a marvelous video. There are times that ONLY A HUG will do!

I love the free hug videos... the first guy was on Oprah last season talking about it... I do enjoy a hug from my family... but I do have personal space issues with those I don't know well...so that usually causes me to give stiff hugs when they come at me :teehee: ...

I'm a hugger by nature. It's something that come easily to me, but I respect other people may not be so inclined. I usually try to remember those who stiffen up and try not to impose on them!

Mason, I think you need to get used to the hugs, I would think by your very nature, you would be getting them all the time! And, when you get that book published (that I just know you are going to write someday), all the ladies at your book signings are going to want a hug, too, I'm sure!!

I love the free hugs thing - there's often a group of young men in the city centre at weekends offering hugs - at first we thought it was some kind of religious proselytising thing, or that they just wanted an excuse to hug the hot girls walking by, but we sat and had a coffee and watched and they were just hugging everyone, with no agenda and no pretense. It was one of the most fantastic ideas I've seen - everyone walked away grinning or laughing with their friends, they would then go on to be extra nice to the next person they met because they were happy, and the world is just a little shinier. When everything else in our lives is set up to distance ourselves, to make us think that all physical contact is sexual or that people always want something, this was something really simple and good.

They do this at Saturday market in Portland OR. This is such a hippie town that they don't really need the sign. It's very cool though. I think George Bush needs to learn to give more hugs than dropping bombs

Oh my gosh, I have never heard of this before, but now I want to go stand around downtown with a sign! :)
