I have been seeing this term all over the place in regards to blocking acrylic yarn and I just have no clue what it means. What does it mean to "kill the acrylic"? Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I feel dumb but in all my years of knitting, I have never heard this term used before now... :whoosh:

If you steam acrylic aggressively, or iron it, it gets limp and flat. Just washing it in the machine helps it keep it's bounce.

steaming it ; if you actually iron it it won't recover from being flattened.

Oh!!! That makes perfect sense! Thanks for clearing up the mystery.

Some people like the effect and say it just softens things up nicely: some people hate it and say the change in the fabric has ruined it.
