I'm making a scarf (in the round, double-thick) with this motif on both ends, on both sides. So four copies of it total. The graphic is in yellow on a navy scarf.

Am I better off using duplicate stitch or going ahead and switching colors as I'm knitting? I'm leaning toward swtiching colors as I go to avoid the tedium of duplicate stitch (x4)later, but since I've never done either I thought some of you might have some insight!

You won't be able to knit intarsia in the round with that pattern.

What I did for a scarf with motifs on the ends is to work the ends back and forth until the pictures were done, then join in the round for the center stretch and separate at the other end to work the intarsia. That way I just had to seam sides where the pattern was.

Why can't the intarsia work in the round for that pattern? If I have two differrent bobbins or pieces of yarn, one on each side of the pattern?

In intarsia, you leave the wool at the end/side of the knitted motif when you go back to a main colour. When you come back to the motif, if you are knitting in the round, you will be on the side furthest from the working wool. Flat, you come back from the same direction you originally went when you left the working wool, it is on your end when you come back.
