If anyone has gotten a Private Message from someone wanting you to read a book, I just want you to know that lots of us have gotten it and the person (Erin Pavlina) has been banned.

Thanks for your PM's and patience!

Yeah I learned my lesson on clicking links...I clicked one on a forum once and I was greeted with a lovely pornographic image and some not nice things spewing out of my speakers. The only way to fix it was to turn my computer off. Viruses can hide in links too, so I try to avoid clicking on things I didn't ask for, or am unsure about.

I didn't delete the PM, but I did ignore it. Thanks for taking care of it :)

Ha! I'd be more impressed if you guys banned all the people sending me Nigerian diplomat scams on my email account. THAT would be a feat!
Just kidding all, thanks for the heads up and the super quick action. No other board I frequent has mods as great as here!:muah:

Thanks for the info. I will delete it. It definitely looked suspicious to me but since it had a whole name attached to it, I was going to ask someone else on here if they knew anything about it before I opened it. I don't get that many private messages so I was leary.

It looks like the spammers may have a new tool in their spammy toolkits! It seems like A LOT of boards are being hit with this. I am still trying to figure out how they accomplished this and have made some adjustments to the PM system to hopefully prevent it. However, I have a feeling it's not the last time this sort of PM spam will occur. I suspect the forum developer will address this sort of thing with an upcoming patch. In the meantime, if you do receive a PM spam, please let us know so we can address it quickly.

Also, I have deleted all the PM's sent by this user. So some of you might have received a "new PM" email only to find that you didn't receive a PM.

Thanks for your patience,

- Sheldon

Just a heads up that I disabled the feature in the PM composition window that shows a list of matching usernames as you type in a username. I am not sure, but I have a feeling that this was exploited by the spammer and the software they used. Once the forum developers release a patch addressing the PM spam issue I will re-enable the auto-complete feature.

:hiding: wow - i feel like such an idiot. I opened it, read and even .... answered:help: - all before I realized it was probably spam - I actually logged on tonight to let the mods know about it ... but you've already taken care of it! Way to go ... and hopefully next time I won't be soooo gullible.

Don't feel bad, I did the same exact thing. I had no idea that people were spamming this way! I will definitely be cautious about PM's from now on.

I got it too, and at first I thought it was spam, but then I stopped and thought, wait, it really could be true... So I went to read it, got terribly confused, skipped a bunch of long paragraphs cause I didnt really like the first bit of writing, and then got totally lost and flipped around. So I just closed it and typed a nicely worded message, that if you read between the lines, you would get that it scked. Then as I hit send, I found out the person was banned. lol But long story short, yes, Ingrid, it did suck. :teehee:
