Hi New York Knitters!

As many of you are aware, knitters from KH have been collaborating to make blankets, lapghans, baby blankets, & preemie blankets for some time now.

The Oddball Baby Blankets project has become so successful that Shandeh has broken it up into regions, and I am lucky enough to be helping to organize the Northeast region.

Our worsted weight blankets are going to Bridgeport Hospital, in Connecticut.

We've just arranged for the Special Delivery Unit at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to be the recipient of any preemie blankets that we make. For those not familiar, this is a brand new, first-of-its-kind center specifically built in to allow women carrying babies with congenital heart disease or other serious congenital malformations, as well as women whose babies undergo surgery before they are even born! They are doing amazing, life-saving work. More information is available here:http://www.chop.edu/consumer/jsp/division/generic.jsp?id=85487 (sorry, don't know how to make pretty links )

Several NY knitters are already enthusiastic members of our group.

The purpose in reaching out to you all is to increase our numbers for these terrific projects. You can see the list of current projects on our blog (link in my sig below) and on the NE knitters thread:http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81357

If any of you are interested in participating, please PM me with your address and we'll get you on the list. All are welcome, and new ideas for blanket themes are greatly appreciated!

Hi all New York Knitters..I'm from Garden City on Long Island..
I know that there are a couple of you gals from LI too! How are you doing and what are you knitting? I'm working on samples for a yarn company. Next I will continue with those Christmas Stockings I posted about on the "What cha knitting" forum. Hope to have them complete for my beautiful grandsons by St. Patricks Day! Also, working on a shrug, using Plymouth's Baby Alpaca Grande yarn...just gorgeous yarn! Try it gals..you'll get hooked like me!
Happy Day to all New York knitters and beyond:hug:

I'm not in NY, nor am I from there, but I WILL be going there in August for the Knit & Crochet Show in August. I'll actually be attending CGOA's Chainlink Conference (Crochet Guild of America).

Since I also knit, I'll be looking around for knitting supplies as well as yarn and crochet stuff.

Are any of you going as well? It's going to be at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Registration forms won't be available until March, though.

what does SNB mean??? sorry i'm new to this! where is the barnes and noble is nisky??

LilHuskiesFootBallMom
02-02-2009, 12:47 PM
snb is stitch n b*tch

The barnes and noble in Niskyuna is in that shopping center at the corner of balltown road and state street (which turns into central ave at the stop light) in the Mohawk Mall. If you take Central Ave (route 5 west) and follow it out you'll see a ford dealership on the right, and you'll pass mcdonalds, dunkin donuts, a mobil gas station, and an army surplus store on the left. the turn you take to get into the Mall is at the next light, you just take a right hand turn and the nearest enterance is on your immediate right (maybe 4 car lengths after the turn). We meet in the starbucks cafe in there.

Albany NY here.

My sister and I decided to teach ourselves to knit about 2 weeks ago, so far a couple of scarves.

so far i taught myself the basics, yarn over, purl2 together, cables and what not. still trying out continental, english and a bit of a blend. i want to stay flexible if one suits better than another.

i might have jumped a bit too fast, my hands are getting used to it still; i also have a physical day job that is very heavy this time of year! and massage therapist part time. i think i like working with my hands.

Try experimenting with different types of needles... you'll find some that fit your hands beautifully :)

I wonder if any of you in Manhattan know of a good knitting circle in Manhattan? I think it would be fun to get together with others and just knit.

I found a kniting group on Ravelry at Yarntopia that seems pretty active and meets once a week but they're at 108th and Amsterdam and that's going to be hard for me to go to on a weeknight after work.

I didn't know about that! I thought there was one at the Starbucks on 86th or 87th but do you mean the one on Broadway near Knitty City? ON Wednesdays? I'm on 78th & Bwy..... and I really should go knit with some knitters coz I'm feeling crazy being alone too much.

Hello, Saratoga Springs here!

Editing since I noticed people are giving a bit more information. I've been knitting for 20+ years but am currently working on a piece that's from Drops and it's been a nightmare. I posted for help on here, English patterns are different wording than American and this is my first time working on such. It's a very cute top but whoa has it driven me crazy!

I just started knitting and love it! I taught myself this week by watching videos on this site. I have crocheted for 15 years and decided it was time learn to knit. Right now I am not working on a project rather just practicing to make sure I have the stitches right.

Glad I found this site. I look forward to chatting it up with you all.
