My absolute favorite is Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book.
It has everything in it. I have recommended this book before and everyone that has it loves it too.

I like the Knitting Answer Book http://www.amazon.com/Knitting-Answer-Book-Solutions-Question/dp/1580175996/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196103313&sr=8-1 which has helped me with new techniques.

First off, I love the videos here. . . . they've really helped me. For a book, I like the Knitter's Companion by Interweave Press. It's bound on a ring so you can flip the pages over and lay them flat in front of you!
