I've been making hats with circular needles, and when I change colors my stripes look pitiful. Am I doing something wrong or is this the nature of the beast when knitting in the round? Are there any tricks to the trade on how to make it look a little smoother in the transition?

What do you mean they look terrible? Are you making the changes at the beginning of the round? How are you joining the new color?

Perhaps a picture or two would help.

It's probably the jog in colors when you start the next round with a new color. I think if you slip the first st of the color change round and start using the new color on the 2nd st that helps alleviate it somewhat. Do a search for `jogless jog' for better explanations and maybe pictures.

There are a couple ways to help correct the jogging problem in stripes. Here's a couple to try.
