View Full Version : WIP, MagKnits Hannah Hat

12-05-2007, 02:31 AM
I saw the post about the MagKnits but didn't pay it much attention. I thought it was just another magazine and I would have to buy it if I wanted a pattern from it. Then I had a visitor today who told me about a pattern in that mag that is free on the internet. I checked and sure enough it was a hat that I really liked. Off I went to the LYS, with friend in tow, and bought the yarn and buttons to make a Hannah hat for ME! Of course I purchased RED yarn and RED buttons (I was lucky to get buttons almost the same colour as the yarn). I CO for the hat and I am half way through the decrease already. This is going to be a really soft, warm hat. Picture to follow tomorrow. I'll go back to those damned scarves after I finish MY new hat!

OK this WIP is now an FO! I knit this hat flat because I don't know how to knit in the round yet. It is a very easy pattern, instructions are great. It worked up easily and is very comfy. Great idea for us ponytail girls!! I will post a picture when I can get someone to take one for me. It's back to scarf hell for me!

Is this like a Calormetry (sp?). I want to make one for DDIL who has long hair.

Can't wait to see what you've made.

Good for you! Can't wait to see the finished product! I'm planning to make two of these for my dd's who have loooong hair and have to wear pony tails every day to keep the hair out of the food, art projects, etc. :)

Sorry the colours are not clear, the batteries died on the camera just as I was taking these shots. Honestly this is a red hat! The back is a better picture than the front.

If I had it to do over again, I think I would make this hat on a smaller needle with a bit thicker yarn. The Bernat Harmony is too light for a winter hat.

Just kidding :)

So, don't make this hat from Bernat Harmony. Although it is a chunky yarn, it stretches way out of shape once the hat is worn once or twice. I have frogged the hat and am trying it again with the same yarn but on US 8 needles to see if that helps at all. I can't afford to waste yarn, so let's try this again.

I do really like the hat so I am determined to make this work...

OK, hat number 2 is finished and fits better. Using the Bernat Harmony, I had to use US 8's to knit the hat. Now it fits like the pattern shows. I have a red hat!

I just found a picture of this Hannah hat by accident today but it seems like the links to that site ain't working anymore.
Does anyone still have those instructions somewhere?
Would be very thankful if I could have those.

It's sure a nice hat. I'd like to make one for my long-haired daughter, but I can't seem to find the free pattern anywhere.
Maybe I'll check your Rav notebook. Hope you have a link there.

Great work on the hat!

ArtLady and Neija: PM me your e-mail addresses please, and I will send you a copy of the pattern. I found it in my documents. Because it was a free pattern from Magknits, I don't think I can get into trouble by passing it on!

It's a free Rav download.

What a cool hat! I've been avoiding hats for years because of the ponytail thing. Thanks and I just love yours!

I can't use the link from ravelry cos you have to be a member to see it I think. I've requested an invite over there yesterday.
I have to wait 4 days to get the invite.

But thank you for the help anyway.

Neija: Check your mail in-box. You will have an e-mail there and the subject line says Hat Pattern! Enjoy!

Thank you sooo much.

It's a mutal project between a friend and me (I still need to learn how to knit) and going to start right away I think even though it's almost spring :)
I'll make sure to come back and post some pictures.
