Most yarns work fine with plastic needle; they're not as slippery as metal ones and slightly less slippery than bamboo. You can use anything.

with the exception of my metal dpns, all of my needles are plastic or resin. I've never had a problem with any of my yarns not working on them

I use Boye Balene II plastic needles a lot, and have knitted cotton and acrylic successfully (I can't wear or work with wool).

I love the Bryspun needles. I picked one up as I needed a 25 inch circular and that was the only brand my LYS had. I used it to make the felted clogs - I love the way the tip was shaped - it was really easy to do M1's. I have bought a few more pairs as a result. They are really inexpensive and work great.
