I would like to find a simple, skull cap-style hat pattern that does not require dpn's. I have a 29" size 7 needles, but i dont know if those would be too big? It is going to be my first hat attempt so any advice would be great!
thanks,
Amanda

I suggest you go and learn the Magic Loop method (video on this site) for doing the crown of a hat and then swap to a 16" circ for finishing the rest of the hat.

If you want to knit it in the round that is.

I dont use DPN's, I use Magic Loop instead, works just as well and is easier to start out with.

Good luck :D

29 inches is too long unless you are doing Magic Loop. Normally I'd suggest 32 -40 in for ML, but it can be done on 29 in and you won't have to use DPNs at all. And any hat pattern will work with ML.

Here's a few basic ones.

Here's some tutorials on using ML.
