:aww: Okay, I have knit alot of rectangles - but THAT'S it. I'm so scared to move forward in my knitting. I decided to knit a VERY simple shrug for my 3 yo. It's just a rectangle that you fold in half lengthwise and seam up the sides. The yarn I am using is Moda Dea Prima. So the stitch definition is not terrific. I have NEVER seamed anything before. What is my best bet here? Thanks in advance!

I swear by Mattress Stitch! I still remember the first time I tried it--what a difference in the seams.

Amy has video.

Yes! Matress stitch is amazing, your life will never be the same- but seriously, don't be afraid of seaming, it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Just sit down with a cup of tea and a movie and you're good to go.

One thing I should mention is that this garment is knitted in garter st and turned sideways. So the seaming will be with the garter st sideways (a 90 degree turn). Does that make a difference?

Here's some links I bookmarked that has a lot of different info including seaming.

Should I seam my garment with the same yarn I knitted it with or with something else?

Same yarn, that way the seams aren't obvious

Yup, same yarn, unless you have something really bumpy like a boucle.

I use a crochet hook and just crochet seams whenever I can
