Hi there! I'm including pictures of my first "stranded" project -- a warm hat with a pom-pom (I'm not sure if it's fair isle or not...does "fair isle" refer to a specific type of pattern?).

Secondly...also posting pictures of the "woven-stitch" skinny scarf. The fringe really frayed in the washing machine...I will probably hand-wash the next one, lol. This was my first time knitting with cotton (it's a cotton blend, actually). I absolutely love how this pattern looks. :D

Thanks so much! :D

The hat was VERY easy and you can find the free pattern here: http://slumberland.org/patterns/madison-hat.pdf

The scarf was also very easy and consisted only of knit, purl and slip stitches -- no stranding at all. That is also a free pattern (from DIYnetwork.com); you can find it here: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_3520116,00.html

Thanks again for the comments. :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:

that's your *first* stranding? It looks GREAT! And the scarf is beautiful...I feel so inadequate now. :( ;)

Bethany, don't feel inadequate, lol. I got the general idea of stranding on a flat swatch and it didn't look very impressive (lol), but when I did it in the round for the hat, it was MUCH easier. AND, I only hold one strand of yarn at a time -- I don't pick AND throw to do it. This way just seemed simpler and it worked for me! :D

I'm not expert on Fair Isle--have knit only one stranded project in my whole life a long time ago. However, "a rose by any other name..."
Your stitches are so even and I love the colors.

mdog: LOL...that sucks that you got bored. I really enjoyed knitting it and watching the pattern on the scarf. But I know that everyone is different; for example, I really didn't like knitting the Irish hiking scarf. I was so bored with it, and I was so happy when I finally finished it...but it seems like most people have fun with it. :teehee: :teehee: :teehee:

Thanks again to everyone! :D

Great job on both projects! I haven't ventured into the stranding either. I just saved the info on the scarf (actually saw that episode) and would like to try that. How do you think it would look with variegated yarn?

WandaT: Honestly, I don't think the scarf would look good with variegated yarn since the alternating of 3 colors with the stitch pattern is what gives it the woven look. Of course, I could be totally wrong and you could make the most beautiful scarf ever with variegated yarn, lol! Try a swatch and let me know how it turns out. :D

LOL - OK thanks ... I'll let you know if/when I try it. Couldn't hurt could it?

Your hat looks fabulous!! :yay:

I'm still a bit of a chicken when it comes to 2-color knitting. I can do it, I just don't like to!!
