View Full Version : Kureyon Log Cabin was WIP now FO

03-05-2008, 09:20 AM
I've been working on this one since just before Christmas and I'm glad to say it is in final assembly. It was supposed to use up a bunch of Kureyon I had left over from a failed sweater, but I think it may have ended up adding to my stash, and unfortunately ended up being quite expensive. I was inspired by the Paintbox Kureyon on Ravelry, though I misunderstood what she had done and instead of keeping one colorway per square, I mixed them. I like her effect better, but oh well!

It is DONE, here's the FO:

Thanks! But I do intend to take those little pieces of paper off (they are the numbers so I would put each square in the right place).

Thanks everyone for all your nice comments :muah:

I want to try:knitting: it. Never made before:wink:

I think it's a beautiful work of art. The colors are so vibrant.

03-06-2008, 01:34 AM
so did you change yarn on each strip or keep knitting the next :yay: gorgeous

03-06-2008, 09:13 AM
I did change color after every strip. At first I kept to a strict A-B-C...-G order (there were supposed to be 7 colors), but I ran out of some colors at two separate points and wasn't able to replace them with the same color. Plus, if I had just a little of a certain color, I tried to make one of the smaller squares out of it to minimize joins and not leave behind unusuable scraps of yarn.

Wow!! That is amazing!!! Beautiful colors - great job!

What a beautiful afghan.

Totally awesome! I'd love to see what it looks like when it's vertical. I don't know how you put that on a bed - really it looks like it should be hanging like a picture. Excellent. I'd love to do something like that, but cats would wreck that! Awesome choice of colors and arrangement- Congratulations!!

Bip, that is one of the most pretty afghans ever! You should be very, very proud and happy. Sure, it may have costed a bit to make it, but I bet it would sell for A LOT more!

03-16-2008, 02:46 PM
What everyone else said, and my undying admiration for your color choices. That is really beautiful!

Lol, as I was boxing it up to send to my mom (hey, I told her it was for her before I realized how gorgeous it was going to turn out!), DH said, "Oh, I coughed and got my cold germs on it so you really shouldn't give it to her. You don't want to give her a cold." Nice try! Mom says we can have it back when she dies. Um, she's only 53 so it's gonna be a while! I know she will take excellent care of it though, better than we would (our lives are crazy, and only going to get crazier in a few years when we have kids).

Plus, I thought about my mom the whole time I made it, which was really cool. Now she will think of me whenever she uses it. If I didn't give it to her, all I would think about every time I used it is how I screwed my mom out of a pretty blanket :roflhard:

oh that is really lovely! I love how you did the colors! It looks like wall art! Gorgeous!

The FO is amazing. What a lucky Mom.

03-20-2008, 05:20 AM
Beautiful - both you and your afghan. It takes a lot to give a loved object to someone else, even if it is your Mom :)

03-20-2008, 06:40 AM
It truely is a work of art, and your mom is very lucky to have a daughter like you and this gift.

03-20-2008, 07:22 AM
wow wow that is amazing blanket!

03-21-2008, 09:26 AM

Wow! That's all I can say!

03-21-2008, 12:01 PM
I just went to look at your inspiration and I have to say I like yours better!! That truly is a work of art!!!!

Now I am very tempted to start one. How did you work the black border? Was it knit separately and then seamed on or did you pick up the stitches and knit?

03-21-2008, 12:36 PM
Thanks! Glad to hear I am paying the inspiration forward, since I was inspired by KathyMarie's (on Ravelry).

Yes, I picked up stitches for the border, here is how I did it:

I laid all 12 squares out 3 x 4 and numbered them like this:

3 2 1
6 5 4
9 8 7
12 11 10

On the following squares, I added border to the right-hand side and top: 1,2,4,5,7,8

On the following squares, I added border to the right-hand side, top and left-hand side: 3,6,9

I added border to the right-hand side, top and bottom of squares 10 & 11.

I added border to all sides of square 12.

Hope that helps!
