http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd224/artteacher2007/knitting/studentmadeknittingneedles.jpgI'm teaching a knitting club at school.. that will only meet a few times. The 6th grade students made their knitting needles prior to spring break and then formed clay toppers to help the stitches stay on the needles.

I think that they are so cute..

Thanks all.. they were really excited about making them. I had a few boys in my MS knitting class too! I was happy to see that- especially at that 'age' .. of so much peer pressure.

Those are absolutely darling. Maybe they should band together and open an ETSY shop to earn money to buy more yarn. Very nicely done.

Thanks everybody.. Now, I just need to 'cast on' and knit a few rows on all of them. Our class will only get to meet 1 or 2x (it's held during a special club time for the entire MS -- all students are somewhere taking an extra class that they've signed up for).. so, it's important that I start it for them.

I think that I'll let them take them home.. and then bring them back to me before school starts or something- if they have trouble.

I thought that the class would meet at least 3x.. since, that is the way it was handled the first semester.. hummm

what did you use to make the needles? dowels? did they varnish them or anything??

I wish there had been a knitting club in my school! It would have been nice to have the guidance of someone who had been knitting instead of just teaching myself from books.

 Those are wonderful needles. The kids did a fantastic job and it looks like they are a very creative bunch. It's so great to know that another generation of knitters are in the making... girls and boys. Way to go and applause for your club.

We used bamboo chopsticks! I cut them apart-- w/ a single edge razor blade so they'd be cut apart neatly.. and to save time and fingers.
We'll rub some wax paper on them to make them smoother..

Well done!! Nice work!
