View Full Version : FO: Red "Silky Wool" Baby Set

I am knitting for Elaine's baby boy, due in July. She's very a special young woman. Elaine and Todd have a two yr old girl, Audrey, who's eagerly awaiting her baby brother!
Here is set #1. It is knit with Silky Wool, Bristol Red. Yeah, it's handwash only...
but Elaine will gladly do it. She's the type that appreciates fine knits.
I think this pattern is okay for a boy. It is shown as a uni-sex sweater. I think RED is nice for a boy...and the Silky Wool gives it a rustic appearance, rather than a soft sheen. I hunted like crazy for the 3/8" buttons. Finally found them today at a Joann's Etc.
The set has two hats...one for newborn, the other for about 6 mo.
I made the small hat first...and then thought: "Oh no...this won't fit for long!"
So, I made another hat. I just hope that when the jacket fits, there will be a matching hat that fits. :eyes: I'm out of practice with sizing baby heads!
The jacket and hats took just shy of 4 skeins of Silky Wool.
The pattern is an old time leaflet that I only have a bl/wh copy of!

That is a very nice pattern. I'm glad you finally found some buttons that go with the sweater. What is the stitch you used in the yoke section? Your cables are really nice and I like the way they just go down clear to the edge, with no ribbing on the waist part. The generous ribbing you used on the cuffs should help it fit longer. Two hats should work. You're right about hats, it is sometimes hard to figure out how big to make them so that they fit with a sweater you made. Even ones that come with a sweater and are supposed to work, don't always. Your friends will really love this set.

ArtLady, What is the stitch you used in the yoke section?
It is a double moss stitch. One stitch wide, but stacked two rows high.
Glad you like it! I've made this little cabled coat so many times. I just love it.
The buttons are 3/8" for that little K2Tog, YO buttonhole.
On the blue & white tweed coat I'm finishing up tonight, I didn't use that K2Tog, YO buttonhole. I bound off 2...then cast on 2 on the next row. Makes for a roomier buttonhole, and a bigger button. All the kid style buttons...the artsy ones, etc...need at least enough room for a 5/8" button. I had to pass on a lot of darling boy buttons because of that teensy buttonhole. Darn.

Like always I'm:thud:by your knitting! I love the color and that you have 2 hat sizes. Both my boys never fit into the hats that were sized for their age. Even when they were in the hospital the hats didn't fit!
