View Full Version : Does this pattern add up or I am just challeged? >>>>

I'm sorry I couldn't cut and paste the pattern repeat as it is in adobe format. It's 4 rows, R2 and R4 are obviously not a problem. I cast on 39, as directed, but I'm losing stitches. Can someone look at Rows 1 and 3 (they're short to read) and tell me if I'm just yarnover-challenged?

Thanks! :muah: :muah:

[yo, SK2P, yo, K1]- are you doing this part correctly? I think you are supposed to knit 2 tog where they have K2.

You've got 2 YOs so your adding 2 stitches, and if you slip, knit 2 tog and pass the slilpped stitch over you are decreasing 2 -- so your stitch count stays the same.

Yes, I am knitting those 2 together and passing the slipped stitch over. I think that Row might be off......or i am!

I still get 39.

Row 1: K2, [yo, SK2P, yo, K1] 8 times, yo, SK2P, yo, K2

the repeat section [yo, SK2P, yo, K1] is 4 stitches repeated 8 times = 32 stitches
add the first 2 knits = 34
then you do: YO, SK2P, yo - that's another 3 sts = 37
then end with k2 = 39

I get 39, also.

so I'm either counting wrong or somehow losing stitches on Row 2...because I run out of stitches before I get to the end of Row 3.....

:??

I'm pretty sure that lace is not for me at this point. Hmm.

OK, let's look at row 3 closely.
Row 3: K4, [yo, SK2P, yo, k1] 7 times, yo, SK2P, yo, k4

start out w/ 4 knit sts = 4
the pattern repeat [yo, SK2P, yo, k1] is still 4 sts repeated 7 times is 28 sts = 32
then just the (yo, SK2P, yo) is 3 sts = 35
then ends w/k4 = 39.

try counting your stitches after each row to make sure you still have 39. Or it might help to place a marker every 10 or 20 stitches so you can make sure as you go along that you have right count (I'm guessing it's with the YOs or the passing overs that you are losing stitches.) Leave the markets there for 10-12 rows until you get the pattern established.

You're not making your YOs as (YO knit 1) are you? The YO is just wrapping the yarn around the needle. If you alwasy do a knit with them, then go to do the next k1 as well, you won't have enough stitches to do the last repeat.

Either Suzeez (sp? sorry) is right and you are knitting a stitch along with your YO or you may be mixing up how many times your doing your repeat. It says to repeat 7 times, is it possible that you are mixing it up and doing it 8 times? How many stitches are you short? And are you consistanly short the same about or does it vary each time?

I got it straight at the LYS today, so i'm good to go.

Thanks, y'all!
