When I took my son to school I found out the his teacher turned 60 today.

So went to the shop and bought flowers and a card but thought I would like to knit her something,

I went home and designed and knitted this wash cloth in about 2 hours. Also had a bar of L'Occitane soap in one of my knitting boxes (makes the yarn smell heavenly) which I wrapped up in the cloth.

My son gave it to her when I picked him up from school. A bit of a mad rush, so glad that is over.

She did really appreciate the gift. gave my son a thank you card which he is thrilled with. I am quite surprised that nobody really seemed to have bothered. She is a lovely and kind teacher. strikes just the right balance between being firm with the kids but kind enough that they can always approach her if they have a question or something.

The last school my son was at the teacher was so nice that all the kids walked all over her and learnt nothing. then he had a teacher that was so strict that he cried everyday going to school. He loves school now and are doing really well.

That is so nice to have taken the effort and very talented to be able to make the numbers like that. Good idea with the scented soap because it makes it fancy.

I'm a teacher and I assure you... that she felt blessed by your kind gestures towards her. And, your kindness is going to be carried with her for a long time.

Rarely, has anything ever been done for my birthday or teachers, that I know, in general--- and in the younger grades... birthdays for the children are always celebrated. I have always bought a gift for the children too.

That's the kind of teacher that I am- firm and kind, but they know that I love them. However, you have to be firm to help them learn to become 'decent human beings' and also to know that they are treated fairly... like the others in the classroom are. It also helps so much with discipline- most of the time-- all you have to do is 'give them the look'.. :teehee:

And, a 60th birthday should be honored. In the Asian cultures, that is the big birthday. Thank you for being thoughtful towards your son's teacher.

Personally, I think it should be a NATIONAL LAW that you get your birthday (or the day closest to it-- in case it falls on a weekend) off w/ full pay. AND, if you decide to go to work-- you get time and a half on that day! Now that is what would win an election!
