I have a question about yarns. I am just starting to delve into using different kinds of yarns (different than the cheapies that you can find at the craft stores), and was wondering what the difference was between merino and superwash merino.

superwash means that the yarn was chemically treated so that it wont felt.

Right. Or shrink.

Any sort of superwash wool, merino or otherwise, means it's machine washable.

Superwash merino is my favorite, and it is great for socks. I don't mind handwashing some things, but for some reason I just can't bring myself to handwash socks.

You need to be able to wash socks and things that kids wear. I use wool for my stuff but superwash for the alligator scarves for my nephews for Christmas.
