My son in law is a small man w/a very athletic figure. Most American sizes don't work well for him (very narrow in the waiste & hips) (he is a triathelete)

My delima: I want to make him a plain, V neck vest. I am having so much trouble finding a simple pattern. He doesn't like "fancy"; any idea's on where I can find such a pattern?

You could take any vest pattern you find and knit in plain stockinette. If the original is a cable pattern, you may have to use a smaller size because the cables pull in widthwise. CO for the lower rib in smaller needles and with a lesser number of stitches. Switch to larger needles after the rib; if his chest size is larger relative to his hip and waist, inc a few stitches on the sides above the waistline.
