I am looking for a free pattern of a shawl with pockets on each front. My mom had one a long time ago that she called a reading shawl. It had a nice cable along the inner edge. Anyway...if anyone can share a pattern of this with me..I'd appreciate it greatly.

I'm currently making the shawl from the second link (from Knitpicks), and my friend has already completed hers. It is a very fun project to knit - not boring. I misread the directions & have twice as many cable rows, but I'm considering that personal flair ;-) !

Thanks Holly. That's the one I had my eye one. I'll have to give that one a try soon.

Hi Holly,

If I were making this for a very tall person, would you suggest adding an extra cable repetition? I've been looking for something like this for awhile, how I missed it is beyond me.

TIA ~~~~~

I am 5'8", and I think it will be plenty long enough. However, it would be very easy to add repeats to lengthen it. It is actually constructed in an odd way. You make one half & leave live stitches, go back and make the second half and then 3 needle bind them off together. This join would be at the center of your shawl, so adding length wouldn't effect your pocket placement, etc...
As I'm typing this, I realize that I just, withough thinking, actually bound off my 1st half that I finished over the weekend :-0 DAMN! Oh well...frog, frog, frog!
