View Full Version : Interweave - Sock Yarn

I was reading through the Aug/08 issue of Interweave and on page 18 there is an article called The Pleasure of Sox that features some pretty cool sock yarn.
Does anyone know the name of the computer generated fair isle sock yarn that is used in the photo. Or any of the color-dyed yarn to create a random stripe pattern they show there as well.
I think for a new sock knitter these would be great yarns as you won't need to change colors.
Thanks for your help.

There's lots of faux Fair Isle/jacquard sock yarns.
I like Online Supersocke - there's some good shots of their various lines here: http://www.carodanfarm.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page149.html
Relatively inexpensive, it knits and wears well.
Regia does a lot of jacquard colourways, too. http://www.carodanfarm.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/regia_yarns.html
And Opal - http://www.carodanfarm.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/opal_yarns.html
Actually, there's quite a few of this type of yarn. From experience, they work up best in straight stockingnette or simple ribs - anything more complicated breaks up the yarn patterning and loses the knit patterning.

Did you mean the Windowpane socks?? Those are really killer, I would love to make those too!!! I am knitting a pair of socks right now with Lorna's Laces, which is really great and all, but it doesn't self pattern like that at all! I have knit socks with Regia yarn and it makes a lovely pattern, like this:
This yarn has become hard for me to find, maybe someone can tell us where to find this particular colorway of Regia!
I also bought a skein of similar wool for socks in Indianapolis from Lang Yarns (www.langyarns.ch) and it has a self pattern AND comes with a spool of dyed to match nylon for heel and toe!!!!! I haven't started anything with it yet but can send you a pic of the label and skein if you need me to. Good luck!!
