My daughter's friend is having a boy and I'm going to make the Converse Booties (http://xalleykatx.livejournal.com/50196.html?mode=reply) and I was thinking that a little baseball type jacket/sweater would be adorable. I can't find a pattern and I'll wing it if I have to, but thought I'd ask. If it's a pattern in a book I can maybe get it from my library or buy it if it has other patterns I like. I don't mind paying for a pattern if necessary either. Thanks!

I haven't seen any patterns that particularly say they are for a
baseball jacket but after looking at pics of baseball jackets I would
think you could adapt a basic raglan or saddle shoulder cardigan
pattern. From the pics I looked at, the one feature all the baseball
jackets had in common was the team color striping in the ribbing
around the bottom, on the cuffs and at the neck. Some had the
sleeves in a different color to the body some didn't. So say if
the team colors you want to use are red and white you could do
the ribbing with the red and white striping, the body in red and the
sleeves in white or red depending on the look you prefer.

Here's some pics but I just realized they are not raglan sleeves but
might give you some ideas of how to adapt a basic cardy pattern:

Just an idea!

That's how I figured I'd do it if no pattern can be found. ;)

Oh darn so I wasn't being super original with my idea! :)

I was browsing Ravelry for baby patterns to get ideas for my
new niece on the way and ran across something you might find
useful:

It's a Zimmerman Baby Surprise Jacket modified into a baseball jacket
that is really cute!

Ooooohh! That's awesome! I was actually thinking of making the BSJ, but then found out the baby was a boy. The BSJ is good for either, but I decided to make those booties and wasn't sure how to proceed. I think this might work! Thanks!

And in case anyone notices...I know the Converse Booties are more a "basketball" thing, but I don't think they have cute jackets.. do they? Do babies care? :teehee:

Glad I could help! :) I'm thinking I may have to do one of these
as well but with St Louis Cardinals. My bro and sil are big Cardinals
fans and would get a kick out of it for the new baby.

Where can I get the BSJ pattern? Is it in a book or can I buy just
that pattern from somewhere? After seeing all the modifications on
Ravelry it looks like a brilliant basic pattern to have.

Thanks..
Libbie :)

I think it is in a book, but I can't remember which one offhand. I just bought the pattern from the source....it's $3 plus shipping.

If you've never done one of EZ's patterns before the first time you see it your eyes will glaze over. :teehee: It's not written in standard pattern format, but there are several places to get help (including here).

For the yahoo group you will need to contact the owner to get in, but they have line by line instructions (for personal use only as long as you have the pattern).

As far as I know the waiting list isn't really a big deal. I got in right away.

Thanks Jan, I'm off to order myself a copy! I've never knit one of
EZ's patterns but I have read through some so I know the style.
Thanks for the info!

That jacket is so cute it makes me want another grandbaby. :) It's just that I'm not the one to make that decision.

At least you have one (or some). I have two daughters and a stepdaughter from 28-37 and no grandkids. The youngest wants kids so she will for sure and the oldest doesn't want any, the middle is up in the air..so... Maybe one of these years. I hope I'm not too old to knit by the time they get going. :teehee:

Have you considered Very Pink's Letterman Cardi (http://www.verypink.com/letterman.htm)?

Now that is kind of what I was looking for to begin with, but couldn't find. Thanks! Now I have two choices!

gargoylelib - I'm not on ravelry. I have to limit my computer time. Is there a pic of the jacket on the web other than ravelry? I'd really like to see it. TIA

Jan in CA - Thank you!! :muah: I really like it. Very clever.

Smart of you too for saving it.

I can see wanting to make one in my future. I have the pattern and Meg Swansen's how-to DVD.

You're welcome! I have the DVD and it makes it really easy!

I actually used FastStone Capture to get a screen shot of it then saved it. Also added the persons Ravelry name so I'd be covered copyright wise. I love FastStone Capture and use it a lot. ;)

Those are soooo cute. I have a new DGS and those would be so cute he wears lots of baseball outfits. I made him some really cute cowboy booties I bought the patter book from Annie's Attic. They are soo cute. You can see them here. http://hometown.aol.com/fourleafcl1064/page70.html

Those are too cute, Lisa!

I was having trouble deciding whether to make the BSJ like this one linked or to make a bottom up raglan with different colored sleeves..sort of letterman jacket like. I think this time I might go with the bottom up one, but we'll see.
