View Full Version : In Search of Easy Blanket Pattern

Sadly, a dear friend's mother was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer, and I would like to knit her a blanket or lapghan in some fesitve, joyous colors (if one can use such words to describe colors) to brighten the last weeks and months of her life. Does anyone have a good pattern for a beginning knitter, something I could possibly get done this summer?
Thanks for all your help.

Check lionbrand.com patterns. Lots of beginner/easy options. Many choices at knittingpatterncentral.com. You'd need to wander thru all the links to see what interests you.
You can also take a basic dishcloth pattern and make it much larger, in the yarn/colors of your choosing.

Thank you so much. I am going to check those websites out tomorrow and hopefully get started in the next week or two.

First of all make sure you use a very soft yarn as people undergoing cancer treatment often have sensitive skin. Acrylic is okay, but make sure it's something like Red Heart SOFT or Bernat Satin. There are many choices.
This says it's a baby blanket, but you can use the same technique with any yarn. Just go till you feel it's big enough and then start decreasing as per instructions. It's square if that matters.
Another pretty easy one that says it's a baby blanket. Using worsted weight yarn should make it bigger..at least a lapghan.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post. Everyone gave me such wonderful ideas - I did not respond until now since I spent so much time checking them out!
I found a pattern that seems to fit my skill level and needs:
I will not be using the colors suggested with the pattern as I have suggestions from my friend on what will match his parents' living room.
Materials were ordered and should be coming by the end of this week/start of next week.
I will post pictures and let you know how it goes.
Many thanks to all again for their help!
