View Full Version : Looking for The Big Sweater

I'm hoping that someone here is around my age(54)who might remember a unisex sweater pattern from the late 60's early 70's called The Big Sweater. It was similar to the Starsky Sweater worn by Paul Michael Glaser in the tv series Starsky and Hutch.I made one 34 yrs ago for my sister. Here is a description as best I can remember.Stockinette st.-about top of thigh length-shawl type collar-inset pockets-an indian design section or 2 around-no buttons but had a tie belt. The main colors were eggshell or some off white and the indian design done in shades of brown or black.I think it was knitted with 2 strands of yarn. Thanks for any help.

This isn't the one you are looking for but it's a nice modern
version of that type of sweater.
I knit up the Starsky Jr. (children's version) for my little girl
and it was a nice pattern to do.

Well, I'm 55, but I don't remember that. I wasn't much into fashion at that point I guess.

I do remember that sweater, even though we only watched that show once at a friends house. Everywhere you went, he was on the fan mags at the store. I like the one on Knitty even better, though.
Thanks for posting the pattern.

Ohhh THIS sweater...
Here is one that was copied to look like it. She can't give the pattern out, but says she's going to write one up or something.
THAT being said.. You could do Starsky if you like the cables. Or this one is a similar shape, but you could leave off the buttons, make it longer with less ribbing.

Thanks Libby for giving me a new lead on the sweater.

Many thanks Jan,I'll keep an eye on vicsknits to see if she ever writes up a pattern. I do pretty well in knitting but not as well in pattern writing.
