View Full Version : FO UPDATE!!! Baby Boy Cabled Pullover

06-12-2008, 02:02 PM
October 2nd UPDATE: the mother put my gifted sweater on her baby boy for his first ever 3-month photo session! I'm so proud! See photos below! Isn't he adorable? [Photos are professionally taken, thus the trademark/watermark in the photos!]

The Yarn: Silky Tweed
The Pattern: SIRDAR BOOK #302 CHINO KNITS (http://www.dreamweaveryarns.com/catalog/sirdar-chino-knits-book-p-494.html)
Size: 3 mo.
Giftee: The Varriano baby boy due in July

This one was really fun! It went together in a few days! The blocking really improved the feel of the yarn. It wasn't scratchy in the first place, but washing and rinsing in Unicorn Fiber Wash and Rinse really made it soft!

4 button shoulder closure

That baby is never going to need clothes! I hope it's cold enough he can wear all these lovely sweaters and hats before he outgrows them. :teehee:

Love the sweater!

We live in the Pacific Northwest! No shortage of cold weather!
In the past 60 days, we have only had 23 days that hit 60 degrees! We're still using the heat in our house!

Two nights ago, we had to bring out our snow plows on Snoqualmie Pass! Two feet of overnight snow!

This weekend, our Mt Rainier got socked with 70 mph winds/blizzard with 5 feet of snow! It killed a day hiker, and his wife and buddy were hospitalized with frostbite and hypothermia.

They were reportedly experienced hiker/climbers. They had summited Mt. Rainer previously. The mountain makes its own weather. They underestimated the mountain. Probably poorly outfitted. Mt Rainier headquarters had reported that snow was expected.

First of all, that sweater is so very handsome. What a lucky baby boy!

Secondly....SNOW? Ahhhh that sounds heavenly (coming from someone who's been in 100+ weather too many days this June)

Artlady, you've done it again...another beautiful work of art!
We just got back from Colorado on vacation and there was snow on the moutain peaks....wore jackets all week...wonderful weather!
Sorry to hear that someone lost their life and all the other injuries....you really have to be careful, when you hike like that.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful work,
Merry :)

wow, that will be one well-dressed baby.
I love everything about this sweater, and it looks quite easy...
I could probably figure out the pattern... I need to make some baby clothes (3 friends are pregnant and 1 family member)
but wow, you always make beautiful things
I am sure this will be an heirloom sweater and I doubt this is the only baby who will end up wearing it. I am sure it will last several generations.

Once again, absolutely beautiful work. You are my knitting hero!

The mountain makes its own weather. They underestimated the mountain.

One of the spookiest mountains in the world. The Native Americans in the area feel that there is much that is dark and evil to it. Of course the tourist board doesn't want anyone to get a whiff of that type of thinking. We lived in it's shadow for quite awhile, hiked and camped on it, and had quite a few experiences that were a little out of the ordinary.

I love it! How the heck do you knit so fast!? :teehee:

Besides the time spent each day, I prepare a notebook for each pattern. By the time I cast on the first stitch, I know the pattern inside out. This prevents frogging and correcting of errors.

Thanks for your compliments!

Oh goodness! It's lovely! What a lucky baby!

That is just beautiful-*perfect* for a baby boy! Well done, as always :)

What a gorgeous sweater. You are right that here in Washington you could wear knits almost all year. When I knit a hat for my new niece part of me was thinking it was weird to knit a summer hat but I realized there will be plenty of days or evenings at least that are hat worthy on a newborn.

Now I know the sizes on both these new ones. Thanks. I love this one. The close up is really nice to show the gold fleck in the tweed. Beautiful!!

Don't mean to unnecessarily bump this WHATCHA KNITTING thread...but ya gotta see this!

The new mother (to whom this sweater was given) put her 3 month old baby boy in one of my gifted sweaters! She sent me a link to the photo session, and that is why there is a watermark/trademark within the photo! Isn't he adorable??

He's simply gorgeous, and he looks so happy in his beautiful sweater!

aww he is just to cute! It looks wonderful on him :yay:

10-03-2008, 05:20 PM
ArtLady, that is just perfect on the little guy. He is sure a cutie too. But I think if it is cool enough for a sweater and jeans he needs some socks. That's the meddling grandmother in me. LOL

10-03-2008, 07:24 PM
Awwww, he looks so handome in his sweater! :)

10-03-2008, 08:21 PM
You should be proud. Ahh, that is so awesome, now it will be remembered forever even though he outgrows it, it is imortalized. It looks really awesome on him too.

As for the no socks with the sweater he is a true Washingtonian getting ready to wear his birkenstocks in the rain. We are famous for wearing a sweatshirt and jacket on top with shorts and sandals on bottom. We know we're nuts but it's just the way we are. LOL :roflhard: You know you've done it MerigoldinWa. LOL

10-03-2008, 08:40 PM
That is a great sweater and beautiful work.

10-03-2008, 09:57 PM

LOL But I don't do that. I live on the dry side and I like to be warm, but my DD who lives in Spokane likes to wear sandals all winter. Not Birkenstocks though. I made her some Geisha socks once in an attempt to keep her from getting sick. LOL
