A week ago we got back from a 3 week trip to Moscow (I'll post some pics on the OT forum). I'm originally from there and still have many relatives. It's also a very attractive place for tourists with lots and lots of sites to see. But, of course, like a proud member of the KH community, I couldn't go abroad and not look for some YARN!!! So I got some help from Ravelry members and went to a yarn store that is located near one of the biggest Russian mills and sells primarily their yarn, some of it with BIG discounts. Oh boy, did I get wild there! That's what they call SEX (stash enhancement expedition) in the City :roflhard:! The woman working there was in a bit of a shock, since my DH was helping to choose yarn ! Some of the yarn cost me as much as 13-15$ a bag! Then, on the last day there, we went by an LYS and decided to enter, so i got some more yarn there (again my hubby's fault :teehee:). So here's my new stash:

and from another angle:

Just from looking on it I ! These are not the softest yarns there are, but very useful!

What kind of fibers did you get? Is it animal, vegetable, or mineral or combo thereof?

Except for 2 balls of really pretty eyelash yarn (for huggable hedgehogs), i went for the naturals. There's 100% merino and 100% wool and 50% goat down with 50%wool. Only the chunky white has 50% acrylic, it's going to be a wedding present to my best friend - a blanket, so i figured that in this case acrylic won't hurt. The huge hanks of lilac and gray yarn on the left are mercerized cotton. It's usually used for crochet, but it was so beautiful that my DH made me buy it saying "some day you'll knit a beautiful dress with it".

What's the glossy purple and grey yarn made of on the top left hand corner? What's the brand name?

Thanks

It's mercerized cotton, called Iris by Russian knitters and that's also the name manufacturers use. It's more of a crochet thread - fingering weight cotton. These particular hanks are made by a Saint-Petersburg textile factory. Each is 300 gr and has about 1600m. The seller at the yarn shop said that one hank is enough for a dress. I'm thinking of knitting something very light or lacy or a dress on small needles.
