View Full Version : Our dog has cancer

Just got back from taking our 13y/o dog to the vet and it looks like he has a cancerous tumor putting pressure on his eye and sinus. The vet could be wrong and it could be benign. If he's right we will most likely lose the old boy within 6months. Head/neck tumors are very agressive and can crush the sinus bones (will see nose bleeds) or put pressure on the brain (seizures) and regardless is putting pressure on his eye and will cause blindness.
Not sure how to break it to the hubby as he is at work and Spud is his college dog.

There aren't any words to express how badly I feel for you and your husband. Hopefully, the veterinarian will be wrong. We love them so very much all their too-short lives and facing their loss is almost unbearable. I've been there. They leave holes in your heart. God Bless Spud and positive thoughts are coming your way.

I am so, so sorry to hear your poor pet might be leaving you. It's even harder when you might have to make the decision that to end the suffering early. I know, you didn't mention that, but I know it's going thu' your mind. I have a 14yo chow who is slowly losing his sight and a bit of his hearing, has problems with arthritis and bad teeth, and is beginning to stumble coming up the porch steps. As long as Oso can eat, take his aspirin, and will roll over for me to rub his belly, I keep hanging in there, but I know within the next 6 months to a year, his health will deteriorate to the point that I must consider that final and most difficult act of love that any pet owner can face.

I guess that's my long-winded way of saying...I understand what you may be facing shortly; sending a little prayer of strength out for you.
