Happy Saturday everyone!! I need some opinions. I have been wrestling with border ideas for Rainbow Connection since I finished it a couple of weeks ago. I'm stuck!!! I have tons of stash to choose from I just can't figure out which color or colors to do. Any ideas?? I can post a picture later if that will help. Thanks!!

"White Stripes" was a fast knit ... pictures and getting it in the mail ... not so much ! I think it is BEAUTIFUL !!! What a great idea, Holly. I am taking it to the post office tomorrow !

Gosh, who would have thought a blanket called "white stripes" could be so gorgeous! Debbie, I have jiggly jello in a mailing envelope ready for you, but both of us have had the flu. I hope to get it out today or tomorrow.

Hugs,

Shandeh, thanks for the kind words! I don't check in as often as I should, so I drop off the email list. I wish it didn't work that way!

Holly, I see that you told me here on the thread to keep Think Pink and mail both of them at the same time, so just ignore my PM. It's not fun growing old and losing your memory!!

If I can remember. . .I'll take some photos of the two before I ship them off to you.

Hugs,

Debbie

Can't wait to see what you do with it! I love how it is turning out!! Does it look like there is enough white for everyone? There are 2 knitters after you. I have plenty more if not.

I just saw this message so you can ignore my PM too:teehee: Hope you are feeling better soon!!! Get lots of rest!

I forgot to take a picture of Neon Lights before I sent it on to Sharon. I'll try to get one before she sends it off.
We still need 3 knitters for it. Brenda and Sharon are only other knitters besides myself currently on it.

Debbie, I mailed Jiggly Jello to you on Saturday. I have the tracking info if needed.

Holly, Think Pink and Neapolitan also went in the mail Saturday, and since you aren't that far away, you might even get them today!!

I am working on a Celtic aran afghan with tons of Celtic knots all through it for a charity auction in June, and I'm way behind, so I have to pull back for a bit.

Don't worry, though, because I'll be back at it as soon as I can! I love working on the blankets.

If anyone is finishing up their section and needs to send it on the blog (http://seoddballbabyblanket.blogspot.com/)is up to date. Please check with the next knitter. Thanks!!!

I'm taking Cherry Blossoms with me to finish up my section. I misplaced it in a pile of finished blanket and it got forgotten.

wow, really? I'm usually fairly quiet on these forums anyway, but I do get pretty busy for work during March and April for the High Point Furniture Market (anybody familiar with that?)

thankfully, thats over and I'm back to knitting again! whoo hoo! I actually even finished my second Baby Surprise Sweater. Going to probably cast on a matching hat. Its for a co-worker, so I'm excited to finish it for her.

Hoppy Easter everyone!

It has been quiet on here. I have finished a baby set that I want to post pics as soon as I get a chance. Now I have a shawl and a dish cloth on needles. In June several of my aunts and myseld have birthdays so we have a big birthday party. I have started now knitting gifts for those.

I've been dealing with some issues at home. My marriage is coming to an end. :help: So, I've been comforting myself by knitting on the fullsize Oddball Blankets we started back in 2007.

I'm almost finished with blanket #1! :woohoo:

Now, I need to finish up #2, #3 (all wool), and #4. I'm pretty sure I can finish them up this summer, because I don't have many students this time of the year.

I hope you are all doing well.

:hug:Big Hugs ((((((((Sandy)))))))!!!!! I'll keep you in my prayers. Isn't great how knitting can help comfort us in times of trouble. I can't wait to see the finished big oddball blankets!!

I've been knitting scarves for the Special Olympics (http://www.scarvesforspecialolympics.org/) winter games. It seems so funny to be knitting scarves when it is nearly 100 degrees out. Thankfully they aren't as wide as the blankets. They don't take up my lap and keep me warm. I'm about 1/3 of the way through my 6th scarf. I'm not sure how many I'll end up making, I love doing them!

Shandeh
06-10-2011, 03:25 AM
Nice! You've been able to make a lot of scarves!

I tell ya, when I pulled out that big blanket last night, it brought me to tears. I held the blanket in my lap, and read the journal while looking at the section that each person knit.

So nice to remember our very first Oddball Blanket. It feels so good to finally finish it up. cloud9

Thanks Dawn!
Yes, I am a strong person most of the time. I've had a few days lately where I'm beaten down, crying in my coffee. But, most of the time, I'm pushing on to live my days one at a time. This is my second divorce, so I've had to deal with it before. I'm just glad we don't have any kids together. Our children came from our prior relationships.

Concentrating on getting my knitting projects done has helped some. And I recently purchased a full-size church organ for my home. I had to paint the living room, install new flooring, and hang new drapes to prepare for the organ installment. Now, it's all done, and I can practice anytime I want. Music helps a lot with my emotional release.

Hi, My name is Bea. I recently moved to Florida from Connecticut. I was active in the Northeast Oddball Group there. There doesn't seem to be as much going on in the Southeast group. Are you still making blankets? Are they worsted weight or DK? I am interested in knitting for babies.

Hi Bea! :waving:

Welcome to the Southeast!

Our Southeast Oddball group has dwindled down to just a few members, and our former group leader disappeared. We've had some rough times! Anyway, we have made a few blankets with HollyP leading us, and may or may not be making more. Maybe we should leave it up to the group to decide.

:psst: You may or may not know, but I'm the person who started the Oddball Blankets back in 2007.

Beepr
07-02-2011, 04:25 PM
Yes, I did know that you started the Oddball group. The Northeast group is going gangbusters, you must be proud of them. Hopefully we will get going here in the Southeast again.

I am VERY proud of all the Oddballers! It just amazes me to see how many blankets have been made all over the U.S. and Canada. Astoounding!

If you are interested in working on a blanket right now, let me know. I have two Oddball Baby blankets that some of my local friends started a couple years ago. They could be finished up and given to a hospital in the Southeast.

I mailed a blanket to Beepr, so she should be receiving it soon. It was started by some local knitting friends of mine a couple years ago. They gave it to me, after they finished a few sections. I set it aside, because I was already working on so many other projects.

It's nice to see it on the road to completion now! :)

It's called "Kaleidoscope". They cast on 113 stitches for this one, so it's a litte wider than our usual baby blankets. I'm not sure how many sections will need to be knit to make it look right, but we will figure it out. I will be contact for this blanket, since it is intended to be given to a hospital in my area.

They also started a blanket called "Crayola". I'm still working on a section for that one. If no one else offers, I'll send it out when it's ready. Once again, I'll be the contact for this blanket.

Shandeh, I would love to be part of this group. As an avid crocheter I would love to add borders to the blanket, if there is a need for that while I get my knitting skills up to snuff to be able to knit a section. I'll send out a PM to you with my contact info in the morning.

Best wishes,

If need be, I've also worked with the Arkansas Children's Hospital in the past and am very familiar with their needs and requirements. So if you'd like help coordinating or need an additional hospital, I've spent a lot of time at this one with my eldest son.

Hey everyone! Sorry to have disappeared this summer. I'm back! My brother and SIL just had their 2nd daughter:happydance:. I have been absolutely wrapped up in being Auntie Holly for the past month. The girls are both so precious when I am with them everything else just seems to fade away!

Welcome Beepr!!!! Sorry about any confusion with your joining us that my absence may have caused. I have your address and can't wait to see what you do with the blankets Shandeh is sending your way. Most of our blankets are worsted weight, we've done a few dk.

Also welcome to TreshaRuthe!!!! Ditto my apology to Bea. I replied to one of your pms and combined the responses I hope it wasn't too confusing. I should be in bed but instead I am answering the back log of email/ PMs I've accumulated.:)

If everyone is still game I am more than willing to keep making blankets together. I know everyone is busy this time of year but it would really help if you all could let me know one way or the other if you are still interested. Last count we only had about 5 people active which makes it difficult to fill blankets. We've done some great work in the past and I would hate for it all to stop.
Thanks everyone!!:grphug:

Welcome back Holly. Congrats on the new niece. I have not lost interest in this group. I hope you have me on your active member list. I can't get much knitting done right now though. My stepfather had a severe stroke and needs constant care. I am trying to help my mother all I can. Also, my father-in-law has been put in a rehabilitation center in another state so we are traveling a lot to check on him. But don't count me out. Hopefully things will return to some state of normalicy.

Prayers would be appreciated.

Thank you Sandy. It is crazy around here.

Hi Holly, I am delighted to be working with the Southeast group. I have lots of Caron Simply Soft yarn that can be used for Oddball blankets. I have finished my section of the one blanket that I got from Sandy. I can do another section, or add the border, whichever you want. I can't remember the name, but think it might be kaleidoscope? Let me know what you want done next.

I have been in the northeast for the last week. We head home to Florida today. I will surely be glad to be back home. Strange, we have only lived there for 3 months, but it is already home!

Bea, That blanket is Shandeh's project. You'll need to contact her about it.

Good to "see" you all again! I hope you are all staying cool! I am very thankful for AC and ceiling fans this week. I keep threatening to move somewhere with out the heat but then I realized I would probably have to deal with a lot more snow. I love snow for the first couple of days but then....

Hi Bea! :waving:

Thanks for knitting a section of the Charlotte, NC "Kaleidoscope" blanket.

Here's my latest photo of that blanket.

Now, we just need to find out who would like to knit another section on it.

Any takers?

Glad to see you back Tracy!

How does everyone feel about me starting a new blanket? Any ideas on theme? For some reason I am drawing a blank. I guess I can blame it on the heat! I have several empty sets of needle begging to be used.

You know that poem about little boys and girls being full of different things? Like snails, puppy's dog tails, etc for little boys and girls are full of sugar and spice and everything nice? Why not use that poem as inspiration?

I also had "Tonka Trucks" come to mind when I first read your post, Holly. Legos is another idea that came to me. I hope these help, I mean I know they're not stellar ideas, but maybe they'll spark some better inspiration than what I am capable of on no sleep and no coffee.

Holly, would you mind if I direct SE Oddballers on Ravelry to come here to the KH Forum if they want to join?

It looks like our discussion here is the only activity for the SE Region.

It's nice to have everyone coming home to the birthplace of our Oddball projects. cloud9

I love the idea!! But the hospital has asked that we not have all yellow blankets or even yellow at the top or bottom of a blanket. It can make sick kids look jaundice when they aren't.

That would be fabulous! I try to check in there but everything really does happen here.

I was thinking of starting a blanket called Day at the Beach. What does everyone think?

How about if we make a "Sunshine" blanket orange and white, with yellow stripes in the center?

If you use orange, it should be next to the yellow with white on the ends. Orange can also, under the wrong lighting conditions make a baby look sicker than they are. As can certain shades of blue when it reflects light back onto the baby.

I do have the list for Day at the Beach written out, but I've been doing a lot of organizing and can't find were I put it. lol! As soon as I find it I will post it. I still need to cast on for it.
Hope everyone is else is well! I won't be around much this weekend and part of next week. I'm having a house full of company.

Poor Holly! :pout: I hope you get better SOON!

I've been knitting like a crazy person. Making wraps and shawls to wear when I go to California next weekend. And I started a couple Oddball Pet Snuggles, and I'm knitting a sweater for the Bernat Blog, and test knitting and crocheting a couple things on Ravelry.

I've been staying home all day long, most every day, because my piano students have been out of town. I'm trying to lose some weight, so I haven't been eating a lot. Drinking lots of water, and eating lots of veggies and fruit. I've also started drinking the cheap version of Ensure nutrition shakes and taking iron pills, to help me have more energy. And I've noticed a difference, so I think it's working.

Next Friday, I'll be flying to California, so I'm mailing a package ahead of time, containing all the clothes and shoes I'll be wearing. Should be cheaper than paying for luggage to be checked in. I think it's crazy that they charge for luggage now.

When my visit there is over, I'll just throw all the dirty clothes back in the package and mail it back home. At least I won't have to worry about losing my luggage! :)

My plan is to just have one carry-on, plus my CPAP machine in a separate bag. (they don't charge for medical stuff like that)

Wish me luck! Crossed Fingers

Hope every got through Irene safe and sound! We lost power for about 22 hours. We were very lucky! Only a couple of tree limbs and a bunch of little branches came down. No damage to the house. I've never been so scared as when I had to take my dog out because he was having diarrhea in 50 mph wind gusts. We both survived just fine, I know I was more shaken up than he was!

I finally have the list for our newest blanket. I'm off to update our blog.

Happy Saturday everyone! Is anyone interested in taking over leadership of our group? My new job is taking more out of me than I had anticipated. I just don't have the time or energy to commit to leading the way I feel I should. I definitely am not leaving the group. Thanks!

You've been leading us for a LONG time, so you are free to move onto easier days.

If no one else steps up, I might see if the Northeast group wants to absorb us. That would make them the East Coast group.

How many of us are there in the Southeast?

Okay, since there are just a few of us left, I would like for us all to post a message in Ravelry on the Northeast Oddball Group (http://www.ravelry.com/groups/northeast-oddball-baby-blanket-group), asking to join them in making blankets.

If you prefer to not join that group, then you can make blankets on your own for charity.

We have had a good run! We made LOTS of blankets for charity for the past 5 years. cloud9 We can be proud of our work.

By the way, if you have any Southeast Oddball blankets at your house, post here so we can finish them up. Or, offer them to be finished by the Northeast group.
