I miss the pictures. :( Anybody got some recent pictures of Summer Sky, Busy Baby Bee, or Lemon Drop??

I miss the photos, too. If you have one of these blankets, please post a picture for us. Thanks

I took a photo of Busy Baby Bee after my section - here's a pic that might satisfy your needs for photos!

Ahhh...it looks terrific!!!

Y'all let me know if you ever need yarn. I have Hobby Lobby, Joann's, Michael's, and Walmart...all within five miles of my house. I don't mind picking something up and sticking it in the mail to you.

Either way, the blanket looks fabulous with the yarn you used!!

I updated the blog (http://westcoastoddballknitters.blogspot.com/) with the picture. Thank you!!

A bounty of blessings awaited me when I got home from work today. I received Spearmint Twist and Busy Baby Bee in the mail today. Spearmint Twist is just lovely, I was able to start on it right away because I had some yarn that worked perfect just waiting in my stash.

Busy Baby Bee is also pretty...such a neat stitch...I hope I get the hang of it, but the directions look clear enough. Wendy thanks for the goodies. My mom used to have applets and cotlets around the house all the time...they were a special treat for us kids when we were good. Great memories are fun to relive.

But I do have a question...is Busy Baby Bee a preemie blanket or a regular baby blanket. The first two sections look like preemie weight, but the last two look quite a bit heavier. I'll wait until I get an answer before I go out to get the yarn...

Thanks

Busy Baby Bee is a regular blanket. I've had this question asked before. I wonder if maybe some of the worsted weight yarn is a little lighter than others? You know how some can be a little thicker depending on the brand. I've been told that one of the brands used is Caron Simply Soft. It's a worsted yarn but has a silkier feel to it. Maybe those are the sections that appear to be dk weight? :??

Hi all! Kris is already done with her section of Spearmint Twist! She does fast work, eh?

I am asking if anyone is interested in being a pinch-knitter for that blanket. We have one more section to go before it heads to nannaknits for the border.

Anyone game?

Spearmint Twist arrived today!
Thanks Kris for the wonderful tape measure - it's so cute!

I'll get started right away on this beautiful blanket - I LOVE the colors!

I just realized I'm adding the last section to the blanket and I've never done that before. There may be instructions on here somewhere, but am I suppose to bind it off before sending it to the border person? Then do I get to keep the needles and start a new blanket (I'm willing to do so, if that's normal)?

auburnchick
07-25-2009, 08:39 PM
Please go ahead and bind off. You can hold onto the needles and start a new blanket if you want. Just let me know! I can send you an instruction sheet for whatever type you choose to cast on for (DK or worsted).

Thanks!

I just finished Busy Baby Bee...I have to admit that the stitch almost got the best of me...I had to frog it twice before I got the hang of it. But it is a very pretty stitch....I have to admit. Not sure I'll try much more than 4 inches of it though. :teehee:

Here's the latest picture of it.

Kris - don't feel bad, I had to do the same and get advice from the others when I had Busy Baby Bee. I've been practicing it making the dishcloths that the pattern came from because I like the stitch and want to be able to use it again sometime.

krismorales
07-26-2009, 12:21 PM
I really do like the stitch, I just never really got a rhythm going. I had to really pay attention to the count. Maybe because I could never "see" the pattern form like I can on a rib stitch. But I think it makes a precious baby blanket. Snuggly.

auburnchick
07-27-2009, 05:08 PM
I'll admit that executing that stitch is not a favorite of mine either. I made a dishcloth out of it once and vowed not to do it again. Give me lace any day, but pulling from the stitch below... Ugh.

Kudos to all of you!!

So I'm doing the 6th section of Lemon Drop, do I bind off? Who do I send it to next? Please send me the address, it'll be ready to go probably by today (Saturday). Thank you!! :) I'll post a picture when I finish my section. I had a white yarn that was too thin (I realized 6 or so rows in, had to do some frogging) and the yellow yarn I had was the same color as someone else's, so I made my own colorway by mixing them together! Now I have a color that reminds me so much of buttered popcorn!! :) Picture soon to come!

Hi all.

I have a huge favor to ask.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to take over leading this group.

My daughter just started her senior year in high school, which, if you've had children, know is quite chaotic. She also has a very heavy soccer schedule...both travel (I just got back from South Carolina last night) and high school. My son started playing in the band this year, and he doesn't drive yet, so he's keeping me running a lot!

I am also still looking for a teaching position as well as couponing to try to save $$.

So, I have a lot on my plate right now.

The system we have in place is very efficient. I have one spreadsheet with all of the information. It's color-coded and very easy to keep up with.

The blog we have is also easy to maintain. It's not mandatory, so it would be your choice on if you wanted to keep it up-to-date. I would just need to change the login info.

One thought is that someone could maintain the spreadsheet, and someone else could keep up with the blog...

I have a box of yarn and several sets of needles that I can send to get you started. Shandeh originally sent me this box, and I've started many of our blankets with the goodies inside.

Please, give it some thought and let me know what you think.

We have a wonderful group of ladies. You are all so generous and have put out a lot of blankets already. This project almost runs itself.

Thanks in advance. Please PM me if you'd like to help out.

I'm cross-posting this on our Ravelry thread since we have a few there who are not on KH.

Good Morning Everyone!

I am taking over as leader of this group from AuburnChick. I'm really excited to have us start up again.

I had some empty needles left from our last go-round so cast on for a premie blanket. I've called it Tranquility.

Looking for 6 knitters plus a border person.

There will be more started shortly.

If anyone has empty needles from the last ones we did and wants to start a blanket, let me know. Also if you have empty needles but don't wish to start one, you may send them back to me.

Ooh and I have another idea as well.. I was thinking about doing a striped blanket where for each section you do a two-colored striped section, in example, Section #1: 1" of red, 1" of blue, 1" of red, 1" of blue. Then Section #2: 1" of yellow, 1" of green, 1" of yellow, 1" of green, etc. I know it would require a little bit of stranding... but just an idea!

Also another random idea popped into my mind: Orange Sherbert! (sp?)

Tranquility is amlost filled. Just looking for one more knitter and a border person. Any takers?

Pinnut, Krismorales, Stisdale, Dimpledapple and AshleyP are signed up to knit on Tranquility.

Alos, would like to know if our group would be willing to help knit blankets for Knit for Hope. A thread exists here on KH about this organization. Or do you know of a need in your area that we could help? Suggestions and ideas are welcome.

Nostash has indicated that her donation collection point has closed and that it might be time to find another one. We have provided over 30 blankets to the Denver hospital.

I hope you've all enjoyed your summer and are ready to begin knitting blankets again.

Good Morning Everyone!

Just a quick note to let you know that stagecrafty has joined our group on Ravelry. If possible, go say hi if you haven't already.

So far since September we have 12 active knitters working their needles to make blankets. :yay: If you have knitting group friends, neighbors or relatives, invite them to join our group.

I have been following up on finding new donation opportunities for us. If anyone has an idea, suggestion or recommendation, let me know. I know that each of our areas has a great need.

I'd be happy to work on Jack Frost if there are still open spaces!

Also, can we write on the information sheets of the blankets what type of yarn we need to use (or if it's a premie or regular baby blanket)? I know of a couple last go around where there was confusion and they were done in different types of yarn. Also, if it's written on the info sheet we don't have to search back through the forum to see what type it's suppose to be.

I have some needles from a blanket I finished and I'd be happy to start a blanket on them. I'll post once I've done so and we can get a list going. Should I wait until one of these current blankets is completed? I'm not sure how many are too many to have going at once - I'd say the more the merrier though that's just my opinion!

No need to practice any stitches. Jelly Bean came to me and was knit in all garter stitch, so I knit my section in garter stitch, too.

I forgot to take a picture after my section of Spearmint Twist (I usually take a before and after just for my own personal enjoyment). My section was the last and I sent it on to Nannaknits for the border - do you happen to have a picture of it? Or anyone else?

Also, just curious about why some of the blankets are started with only a small section (like a inch or two) - I didn't know if there was a reason it's that way or not. I was going to start a blanket on some needles I had after I finished a blanket awhile back and didn't know if I'm suppose to do a small section or if I can do a full 4 inch section?

Thanks!

Also, the blankets are started with a 3 -6 row garter stitch border to create a nice edge for the blanket. I haven't done a 4 inch pattern section because there are quite a few knitters that like to work on them. And yes, you may always start a new blanket!

Hi,

I just signed up over at Ravelry and now here. I'm able to knit a section or crochet and edging. I'm not sure where I need to make myself known so I've commented in both forums now.

We moved to Colorado Springs from Oregon last February and I've been doing charity knitting for a number of years. I've knit sweaters for the Guideposts Sweater Project and am currently knitting helmet liners for the troops. I also belong to http://www.ravelry.com/groups/sharing-our-gifts-50-projects-for-50-states and have participated in their first 2 projects.

Your project sounded like fun so I decided to give it a try.

Thanks for including me.

Pinnut3200 has graciously volunteered to deliver blankets to the Denver Hospital on her spring travels. This is the same hospital that we donated to last year.

I received Orange Sherbert in the mail yesterday. I completed my section this afternoon, I was also the LAST knitter so the blanket is now ready for a border! Please send me the info when the border person is ready - thanks!

The list of blankets, location and knitters is very helpful to this newbie - I'm eagerly awaiting Orange Sherbert's arrival. Will post once it is delivered.

The list helps me understand the flow and to plan for when I may be receiving a blanket.

My only other question is, since I'm doing borders on 2 blankets, what do I do with them once the border is finished? I can keep them and mail them all together to whoever handles the donations but I need to know that is the correct procedure.

Thanks again.

It is best if you mail the finished blankets to me for distribution.

At this time we have two donation possibilities: Seattle Children's Hopsital and Denver Children's Hospital.

We are open to others if you have a contact or know of a need.

I've completed the border on Orange Sherbert but would like to wait until Dec 26 to mail it and avoid some of the holiday shipping madness if that is okay.

Conversation has been slow here during the Holidays. I'm sure there will be an answer to your question soon. I'm real new here so don't have the answer but did want to say that I'm glad to see a teenager learning the art of knitting. I learned at about your age and have enjoyed it for about 50 years now.

If your Mesa Verde id means you are in Colorado - so am I but in Colorado Springs.

Happy knitting.

To answer your question, Kae1, no I'm not in Colorado anymore, but I used to live there. MesaVerde is actually a play off of my name, along with being a place near where a lived. And another question, could I possibly make a blanket without having to ship it around? I don't really want to have to deal with all the shipping and stuff.

Pinkalicious is cute!

A friend of mine was looking at our forum and wondered why someone didn't finish their sections. She was referring to the small section the blankets are started with. I told her that was just the way some of them were started. Then I started looking at some of the other regions blankets and noticed we're the only ones starting blankets this way. Guess it's not a huge deal because, after all, they are "oddball" blankets...but, out of curiosity, do they appear incomplete to anyone else?

I noticed it and wondered. Personally, I think they would look better with 5 complete sections and then the border rows but either way works. As you pointed out - they are 'oddball' blankets so almost anything would work.

If I remember right back when auburnchick was the coordinator to the group she had started some blankets with just an inch of pattern so more knitters would have a chance to knit on a blanket. The method just stuck for all the blankets.

I agree the blankets should have 5 or 6 complete sections (4 inches) and a border, if necessary. I am sure that anyone who agrees to start a blanket would not mind knitting a complete section.

As your leader may I say that the blankets that I started only had a garter stitch border of 6 rows at the beginning to let six knitters knit a 4" section. This allows for more knitters to participate on each blanket. It would be nice to end the blanket also with a garter stitch border before the final border is added.
