So my boyfriend is moving out of his current apartment and moving in all by his lonesome and me being the sweet, loving, knitter girlfriend that I am, I figured I would knit him some dishcloths and potholders and other things that he's going to need. Granted he will never admit that things like potholders and dishcloths are essential and so every time I mention knitting him anything like that, he rolls his eyes.

Anyway, I've heard that you should always use cotton for those sorts of things but I'm not sure. I have a ton of yards of sugar'n cream and I was just wondering if that would be alright. And if not, then what should I use?

The S n C is just fine, that's what most everyone uses.

I always use cotton for dishcloths and potholders and they turn out great. I believe the majority of people use cotton as well! Knit away my friend.

I agree with the washcloths, cotton is the best for that but I think for potholders, I would use wool and double it while knitting. Cotton could is more flammable than wool and thinner I think too.

That's terrible yarn. You don't want to use it for that. Just send it all to me and I'll dispose of it properly for you.

Just trying to help.

:roflhard: Look at you trying to take advantage of a new knitter...

That's what I use for my dishcloths, never made a pot holder, but that is what I would use, just make it really thick.

That's what I use. It's inexpensive and terrific for it's intended purpose. I agree with the potholder thing though - double knitting would be best. Or perhaps knit 2 squares (tightly) and fill with a cotton fill and sew together for potholders. It would have to be something that wouldn't melt.
