So I worked my heart out on my rug (see my blog link below) to finish it by the time family arrived and we have a BBQ this weekend. I was soooo excited to bind off.

Then I put it in the foyer and it looks ridiculous. It almost looks square and it's just not big enough for the space. I was gonna frog past the finishing stripe and make it longer, but hubby still doesn't think it'll be big enough and he made a money crack that it would end up costing $300. So I folded it up and put it away.

I am sooo depressed. I put so much time into this. I haven't put the fringe on it yet, but I don't want to until I decide to find another place for it or to frog it. I figure if I were to block it, I could stretch it longer but it'll probably still look silly.

I just don't know what to do. I'm just really bummed. It ended up costing so much and there is so much yarn in it I don't know what I would do with it if I did frog it. Get more cotton and do a log cabin?

Waaa.... I am bummed beyond any more words....

It's hard to tell from the pics on your blog if it's too small for the area or not. But the rug itself looks great. Maybe if it doesn't fit where you had it a better spot would work. What about in front of the kitchen/bathroom sink.

Yeah those pictures were from before I finished.

Hubby suggested the kitchen but it doesn't go with the color theme I wanted to do in there and I needed it for the living room / dining room / foyer to absorb sound.

I just have to get over it and suck it up and decide what to do.

I think it's too big for any of the bathrooms, but I could try my son's bathroom.

I think the worst part as that it almost looks too square. It's not but close enough. I was hoping the fringe would help it look longer. Can I block it and stretch it out to be longer? Would that work?

Hi, Lisa! I really get it how bummed out you are. I didn't get a really clear picture of the whole project from your blog, but what did show is beautiful work.

I'm a professional artist and have been around the block a few times on how sometimes things don't work the way you originally envisioned them. But I will tell you that some of my true masterpieces have emerged from "fixing" what apparently was a mistake, but actually turned out to be the foundation of a truly spectacular work. So open yourself to the possibilities rather than the disappointment and create a truly beautiful, and very original masterpiece.

I'd definitely block the piece so you can get a more accurate picture of how it actually looks and then let those creative juices flow. I could tell from what I read of your blog that you're a real textile artist, and for any artist, this is where the rubber hits the road! :o)

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

Awww...I'm sorry, what a disappointment! Surely you will find a place in your home for the rug? Was reading your blog and I loved it, especially the restaurant tips! My daughter was a server for a lot of years putting herself through nursing school and the stories she would come home with! Made me want to go get some of those customers myself!

Ok then I'll block it tonight. Have I mentioned that I have never blocked before? Should I stretch it and spray it?

I suppose I should put the fringe on because I don't really want to pull it all apart. That would devastate me. All that time and effort. But then again....

Oh man!

It looks so pretty! I don't think you should frog it especially in a fit of depression-lol. Maybe you just need to step away and let your brain work on it a bit and you will come up with a fabulous solution!

Yes, that is why I folded it up. I was having a pouty fit and didn't want my hubby looking at me like I was possessed. I'll pull it out again tonight before he gets home and see what I can do. If I can stretch it a bit and with the fringe, maybe we'll get used to it and it' won't look so square.

Ok I added a picture of the finished product. See my blog. The picture doesn't ook that bad but it looks so SQUARE in person.
