I'd like to see some patterns of the mesh market bag deals...... I'd like to make a spin off of one of those. :)

There's plenty on the net - look through knittingpatterncentral.com or dailyknitter.com

There is also one in the new issue of knitty. I think that it's called BYOB (bring your own bag)

Here's a few more, but I'm sure you can tons more if you check the sites Sue listed.

Knitty's BYOB (http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer08/PATTbyob.html)

The trouble with most market bags IMO is that the handles are just too thin and not supportive. Once you fill it up it's going to be heavy and carrying it on your shoulder is going to be painful. Maybe if you design your own you can take that into consideration and make a sturdier, fatter handle. ;)

Yep on the straps, plus most of them are knit a long garter strip and attach it to the bag, which stretches out and gets uncomfortable. I start from the bottom up, do a couple rounds of garter, then the mesh pattern, another couple rounds of garter, BO a few sts on opposite sides of the bag and CO a few more sts than I bound off, then a few more rounds of garter. Usually I grab the bags by the top, but can use the handles if I need to.

I've made the everlasting bagstopper from Knitty.

You use ribbon for the handles so it doesn't stretch like a knit or crochet handle will do.
