I'm saving up for a couple of sock books, but in the meantime, I can't seem to find cute sock patterns that aren't plain stockinette, and using fingering weight, for my 4-year-old DD. She wants socks like the ones I made for me (Rhombus (http://www.bluegoosedesigns.net/RhombusSockPattern.pdf), Zombie (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/zombie-socks) (on Ravelry only), Diamante (http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall06/PATTdiamante.html)) but in her size, and I can't really find any, except examples that come from books (which I can't buy right away).

I think maybe I'm just not thinking of right search terms. At least not using sock yarn. I've seen a few but all with worsted or DK weight yarn. Anyone have any they've seen?

Did you check Ravelry? I found several which I'll link to. If you know the mechanics of socks you really don't need a pattern beyond the basics if you need one at all. You just need to cast on the multiple of whatever the pattern stitch is and go for it. ;)

Couple basic ones here you can do whatever pattern with -

I'm hopeless at adding or removing repeats to make a pattern. The only couple times I tried, it was an unmitigated disaster. Really. I'm going to examine the links you gave me further and see if I can figure something out. Thanks.

If it gives you a multiple of X just subtract by those increments. You can ask here in KH and someone surely can help you out, too.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

Wenda, I made my younger granddaughter some Monkey socks (from knitty.com) using sock yarn and size 0 needle. They fit her fine! She was about 4 when I made them for her.

These are the socks when they were in progress:

This is how they looked on her feet:

Did you keep the same # sts and everything? Good idea!!
