I've started my NC State Potholder (hot pad or trivet).

I started with LT CO white, the main color, and then purled a row in MC. I am not sure I added the second color correctly, but it seems to be holding. I'm using 10" straight needles (I switched from metal to bamboo, because I kept dropping the neeles; they just slid right out!) And I've even done some left handed knit stitches rather than turning the work and purl, they look identical.

I'll add a picture when I get to some red rows. After seeing the back I think I'll need to knit a backing for the pot holder.

P. S. I see I added the wrong photo. Attached below is the swatch for the ripple scarfs that I have competed. The crocheted rows run the lenght of the scarfs, but in the swatch I only did two pattern repeats.

that will be really cute. It's cool how they can come up with a pattern for everything, not me of course but someobody can seen to figure it out. LOL

I had seen other potholder and dish cloth patterns done using duplicate stitch, stranding, intarsia, and illusion for different images. I though I could easily make a chart from the NC State logo. So there it is! I found the image on the web with google image search, then sized it and applied a grid over the top of it.

I also decided that I wanted to do two handed Fair Isle. Using straight needles, it gets a little tedious to turn the work, move the skeins to the opposite sides and then purl back. So I also have been using left handed knitting to return to the right edge of the right side. (I still have to move the skeins, and that gets confusing).

The more I work with my left hand, the faster I get with my right hand also! I wanted to do a project that taught me something as well as made something. Since I plan on trying to sell this when it becomes a FO I also needed to make my own pattern.

I don't really have a pattern other than the chart. I just figure out what the next fair isle stitch should be as I go along. If I get a long float, I TINK back a stitch or two and fix it.

Now, I just need to get some free time to work on it again. :sad:

You call this project two different things, both a dishcloth and a pot holder. It seems like it would make a better pot holder, because it will be so thick and a backing would make it even thicker, which is great for pot holder, but not so great for a dish cloth. I think a cool pot holder will stand out in the kitchen more than a dishcloth anyway. You can add a loop so it can be hung for display.

Yes, yes, you're right. I wanted to make a dishcloth or washcloth (flanel? in the UK or is it that in Oz?) but I didn't have kitchen cotton in the required colors and weight. It is 42 stitches across in worsted weight (4ply) acrylics. I thought I would do a duplicate then put them back to back.

I plan to crochet the edges tog, and I'll do the loop then. I just can't change the title of the first post. :sad:

This is wonderful! I've always admired the MARVEL of double knitting, but never had the courage to try it! Me and stranded knitting don't get along very well!
