Thanks to the ladies who have responded to my thread and added links for the Save the Children - Knit One, Save One Campaign. I participated in their last campaign back in 2006 and the results were truly amazing. One of the parents at the school where I teach is a Child Survival Specialist for Save the Children. He said the staff here in CT was overwhelmed by the generosity and creativity of knitters and crocheters during the 2006 campaign.
Congratulations to those of you who have already participated in a similar campaign in your native countries. :yay: I can only believe that all around the knitters and crocheters will continue to respond to the call to help the infants of the world. It is heart-warming to know that one little baby hat can make a difference in someone's quality of life.

We will be running a campaign that will launch on November 1, but it will be for children of all ages, not just newborns and will include blankets, scarves and sweaters as well. I will send out an email that explains it a little closer to the date, and it will also be posted at www.savethechildren.ca <http://www.savethechildren.ca/>
I hope to participate in that.

Knit One, Save One
http://www.bernat.com/newsletters/oct2008/edelsteincap.jpgDid you know that 60% of newborn deaths in developing countries can be prevented? It just takes a simple package of basic health measures provided to mothers and babies.
One of these measures is keeping a newborn warm. That's where you come in.
Warm Up America (http://www.warmupamerica.com/home.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=warmupamerica&utm_campaign=oct2008) is again teaming up with Save the Children (http://www.savethechildren.org/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=savethechildren&utm_campaign=oct2008) for an infant caps drive. The new campaign, called Knit One Save One (http://www.savethechildren.org/programs/health/child-survival/survive-to-5/knit-one-save-one.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=knit1save1&utm_campaign=oct2008), is underway and will continue through the end of the year.
Wow! Look who's knitting and crocheting for Save the Children and Warm Up America's Knit One Save One campaign:

One more for the cause :)
11-11-2008, 10:19 AM
I'm new to the forum and just heard about the Knit One Save One campaign. I wanted to make a personal goal to make 100 hats before the end of the year. I invited some friends (some who had never knitted or crochet before) and they are all hooked. There are about 10 of us working on the project now and I feel very optimistic that we will meet our goal.

My school group is also knitting for the Knit One, Save One project for Save the Children. Check Knit One, Save One website the week of November 19th for updates that will include video message from some of my students. So far we have knitted about 170 baby caps!
We are planning a "Stitch-In" open to those in the Louisville, Kentucky area to knit baby caps for this project on Saturday, December 13th from 10 am to 2 pm. Check my group's website for more details as we get closer to the date. http://www.stitchforacause.org
Need motivation to join in? Save the Children estimates that 4 million newborns in developing countries die each year, 1/2 within the first 24 hour for PREVENTABLE causes, including hypothermia. Knitting a small cap may take you only an hour, but really can save a life!

I forgot to post that the Canadian campaign is now up and running.
However I received an email saying that they are looking for sweaters or blankets rather than hats. They already have lots of hats.I am going to send some hats anyway as I don't have the time to knit sweaters.

Does anyone know the actual mailing address that I can use to mail the hats that I knitted?
Currently, I can only use the public library and you can't download anything on their computers.. which is what the knit one save one... website wants you to do-- to get more information.
Could someone PM me with the mailing address? I was only able to knit 3 hats... but, I do want to mail them before the deadline.
