View Full Version : Finished Saturday Market Bag

Here is the link to my flickr page with my finished bag :woohoo:
I modified the pattern to knit it in the round. After Ingrid (Thanks again :) ) taught me about lifelines, it knit really fast and I really like the pattern. I was surprised it didn't stretch more after seeing others bags, but maybe when I fill it with heavier items. As it is, it was perfect for carrying things down to the beach! When I make another one I plan to wided the straps a little.

Lori what a cute bag! I can see using that for many purposes. I bet if it was lined with material you could use it as a knit bag or diaper bag too. Very cute!:muah:

Lovely bag :)

That looks great! How did you adapt it for knitting in the round? Would it work to cast on 1/2 the stitches (or rather enough stitches for one side of the bag), then pick up one stitch out of each cast on stitch, then continue in the round?

I love your bag-great colours

Thanks. I am pleased with the bag. It is holding 4 big beach towels, and I think it will stretch a little taller if I put some heavier items in it. More bags in my future. I think a couple to leave in the car for quick shopping trips sounds about right!

I needed a bag to take to the beach last week, so I finally started a modified Saturday Market bag. I used a Turkish cast on and cast on 45 (total of 90 stitches). Then went into the lace pattern modified for knitting in the round:
Row 1: K1 (initial row only k2tog instead of K1 to give 89 stitches) * yo, sl1, k1, yo, psso; repeat from *
Row 2: K1 * drop yo from previous row, k2; repeat from *
Row 3: k2, repeat from * of Row 1, end k1
Row 4: * k2, drop yo from previous row; repeat from *, k3
I patterned finishing the straps after these modifications http://126.96.36.199/search?q=cache:wBjVoPMwg34J:disdressed.blogspot.co m/2006/08/string-bag.html+magknits+market+bag&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=us&client=safari
Looks harder than it was and I sure didn't miss the seaming!

That is so nice! I love the colors. What is the yarn? I ought to make something useful like this and help save the planet like you are doing.

Thank you Merigold. I used 1 skein of Lily Sugar 'n Cream and modified the original pattern below to knit it in the round.
