I'm new to spinning and wonder if a dog brush can be used just as well as the carders I see online (which are quite out of my price range). Also, how do I use a wrist distaff?

If anyone can answer these for me, thanks a bunch in advance!

Yes, you can use dog slickers to detangle your wool locks to spin them. It's slow going but it can be done!
I've used a wrist distaff when I'm walking around and knitting, but not when I'm spindling.

It's used so you can hold the fiber (or the yarn) and easily pull for drafting or knitting. Like most other things in this art, there is no ONE right way.
