Hi Everyone, I am having a problem with a sweater pattern in the
book "Textured Knits" by Julia Cooper. The sweater is Project 7: Stitch Effect Sweater, on page 70. I am making the Medium size
and have finished the front and back of the sweater. The problem I am having is with the sleeves. They do not fit the armhole as written. I am not experienced enough to correct the pattern. I have checked for an errata, oops and also gone to the publishers web site, but found no corrections. Is there someone out there who can help me? The book was published in 2004. I started the sweater about a year ago, and would love to finish it. Any help you can give will be appreciated. I really thought this would be an easy pattern, and I do love the design.:knitting:

Thanks,
Shirley

Hello. Can not help with your problem here other than to suggest you post it in the How To Section of the forum. I am sure you will get help there faster than here...Good Luck

I moved the post here because it was also about the book. Either forum will work and there is no need to cross post.

Hello Shirley,

I found your post when I had the same problem...here is how I fixed it. I also made the medium, but I knit my sleeves in the round (which only matters for the first two rows) and added a pattern repeat to lengthen them. I adapted my instructions to match the pattern, assuming you were knitting it as written, so set your row counter to 130 after knitting your last row at the armpit and proceed as follows.

The correction requires doing decreases on the wrong side rows, so there are basically 3 options for decreases--right side knit (rows ending in "1"), right side purl (rows ending in "7"), and wrong side purl (rows ending in "4").

Starting with 72 sts at the armpit on row 130 as per pattern:

Rows Stitch Count (M)
131 BO4 [68]
132 BO4 [64]
133 k3, k3tog, *k*, s1, k2tog, psso, k3 [60]
135 k3, k3tog, *k*, s1, k2tog, psso, k3 [56]
137 purl
138 p3, p2tog tbl, *p*, p2tog, p3 [54]
141 k3, k2tog, *k*, s1, k1, psso, k3 [52]
144 p3, p2tog tbl, *p*, p2tog, p3 [50]
147 k3, p2tog, *p*, p2tog tbl, k3 [48]
151 k3, k2tog, *k*, s1, k1, psso, k3 [46]
154 p3, p2tog tbl, *p*, p2tog, p3 [44]
157 k3, p2tog, *p*, p2tog tbl, k3 [42]
161 k3, k2tog, *k*, s1, k1, psso, k3 [40]
164 p3, p2tog tbl, *p*, p2tog, p3 [38]
167 k3, p2tog, *p*, p2tog tbl, k3 [36]
171 k3, k2tog, *k*, s1, k1, psso, k3 [34]
174 p3, p2tog tbl, *p*, p2tog, p3 [32]
177 k3, p2tog, *p*, p2tog tbl, k3 [30]
181 k3, k2tog, *k*, s1, k1, psso, k3 [28]
184 p3, p2tog tbl, *p*, p2tog, p3 [26]
187 k3, p2tog, *p*, p2tog tbl, k3 [24]
189 BO all

When you're done there should be 6 pattern repeats as shown in the picture, rather than the 4 you get from following the instructions. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your response. I will be glad to finally get
the sweater done. I can't wait to try your corrections.

Hi Eden, I just finished the sleeves for the Stitch Effect Sweater. I still have to put
the sweater together, but now the sleeves fit the sweater armhole. Thank you again.

Regards,
Shirley
