View Full Version : I am finally married!

I took a knitting class about 14 years ago and started a sweater. My then fiance said when I finished it, we could get married. Well, it languished in storage and then got attacked by mice...

So, I took up knitting again about 4 months ago and this is my first sweater I have ever FO. I made him Yarn Forward's Bomber Jacket for his birthday (it was supposed to be done in a solid color - but I thought that was boring). I gave it to him for his birthday last week and I told him we could now get married.

We've actually been married now for about 12 and a half years. BTW, his other requirement to marry me was that we do a polka together (that one I did manage to complete in a timely fashion).

He'd probably tell me I'd have to knit a wedding dress prior to renewing the vows...

I'd request he do this, but he's out snowblowing in his new sweater instead!

Nice sweater. It's a good thing he didn't hold you to what you had said previously. But I suppose if he had you would have finished sooner. :-)

Great sweater! Love the story!

My man's requirement (a la his mountaineer brother's advice) is:
"You never know what a woman is like til you take her on a good hike."

So John took me on a hike up Mount Si, reportedly the steepest incline in Washington State, for short day hikes.

Wanna know what my advice is?
"Never marry a man til you let him take you on a good hike."

My man carried me on his back the last half mile to the summit, at his suggestion. He says, "Aw, why don't ya just hop on my back? I'm not tired yet and you are." (I wasn't a hiker. I was a city girl.)

Thirty eight years later, I'm still married to him! He's a keeper!

Your story cracked me up, maybe THAT is what I've been doing wrong. If I knit my partner of 9 years a sweater he'll assk me to marry him!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the story and the sweater! I'm sure glad my DH didn't make that a prerequisite for getting married. I still haven't made him a sweater.

ArtLady, I had to laugh at this. John must have been in pretty good shape to do that. He was lucky you were just a little thing too. We were only 18 when we got married and DH could barely lift me at the time. He only weighed 135 pounds and I was about 120 so I was a big load for him and he was not the athletic type.

Yup, gotta admit it. I was about 90 lbs soakin' wet, and he was 200 lbs, just released from his 3 yrs Marine Corps tour of duty.

It is a beautiful sweater! :yay:

Lovely stories. Thanks for sharing.

That is a good looking sweater. And don't worry about how long it took.

With a 12 and a half year history, I predict you'll finish your next sweater before you get married again. :)
