I'm a part of a website called Bzzagent, and the current topic we're bzzing about is HPV. If you don't know anything about HPV, now is the time to learn.
HPV is a virus that can cause cervical cancer and other diseases. Talk to a doctor to find out how you can help protect yourself.
There are 4 types of HPV that cause the most cases of HPV-related diseases in women.
Types 15 and 18 cause about 70% of cervical cancer cases.
Types 6 and 11 cause about 90% of all genital warts cases.
HPV IS EASILY SPREAD. The virus that can cause cervical cancer can be spread through ANY kind of sexual activity that involves genital contact -- not just intercourse.
While half of all women diagnosed with cervical cancer are between 35 and 55 years old, many of these women were probably exposed to cancer-causing HPV types in their teens or 20's.
80% of women will have had genital HPV by the time they are 50 years of age!
For more facts, talk to your doctor and visit HPV.com. Even if you're a guy, talk to your female friends and family members about this. It could save their life.
