I was turned on to crochet by a cousin when I was about 17. Do you have anyone around to show you? I think that is the best way. The stitches themselves are not difficult, and if you can follow a knitting pattern, you should be able to follow a crochet pattern once you learn the stitch abbreviations.
Here is a website that may get you started.

There are also stitch guides available at http://www.anniesattic.com .
Tutorials are also found by going to www.crochet.org , which is the site of the Crochet Guild of America.
I've done quite a few crochet videos and they are available free on my website. You can get the list by clicking HERE (http://www.hookedonneedles.com/2008/07/time-to-get-organized-crochet.html). I also do video tutorials by request, if you are having trouble with a particular stitch or technique.
However you decide to learn, good luck with it. You'll love crochet!
