My question is: Can I use a DK of any type as very very limited yarn stores here. OR is that like a baby weight?

One size cowl.

8 {50g} Sirdar Eco wool DK Color 204 Flint.

ONe 4mm circular needle, 60 cm long or whatever you require to get tension below.

Tension:
22 sts. and 28 rows = 10CM {4ins}.
in stocking stitch.

TO MAKE;

Cast on 300 sts; join in rnd.

work [k2, p2] ribbing until cowl
from geb. measures 45.5. cm [18ins];

cast off in rib.

Weave in ends.

Any sort of DK yarn should work as long as you are getting the gauge (tension) specified: 22 sticthes and 28 rows to 4 inches.

You might want to find an online review of the Sidar Eco to find out what sort of texture it is to help narrow down your selection.

Most baby yarn is thinner than DK, so you would need to sub another DK or a sport yarn. A thin worsted like Caron's Simply Soft might work too.
