Hi homeknitting! To yo, bring your working yarn from the knit position (in back of the needle) around to the front, like you're going to purl, but instead of stopping there, keep going all the way around the needle until it's back in the knit position again. Voila! A yarnover!

A YO is done just like a knit stitch, except the right needle isn't inserted into a stitch on the left needle. Just use the same movement to wrap the yarn around the needle as if you were making a knit.
