View Full Version : Textured Cardi with Collar

Here is the latest little sweater I've made with the Red Heart yarn. I got a very different look this time. ;) All the same yarn as the sailboat and ducky sweaters but orange thrown in (not too much, it screams) instead of gold.

I was inspired by a little hat I saw that had a lot of textured stuff going on including some chain stitch crochet/embroidery (which I lifted). The hat was called Frenchie and is in the book Itty Bitty Nursery. I thought, "I could make a sweater and just change the colors and textures as the mood hits me." It uses several textured stitches from the Harmony Guides.

I just started at the bottom with the bright garter stitch border working fronts and back as one piece. I worked to the armholes and then did the back and fronts. Did a 3-needle bind off for the shoulder seam. Then I picked up stitches around the armholes and made the sleeves in the round from the top down. It seemed to be calling, "I want a collar", so I gave it one.

I would have loved some orange buttons, but couldn't find any that were right so settled on white.

It's wonderful! I just love all the colors and textures -- it's a wonderful sweater for a baby. Who's the lucky recipient of the beautiful sweaters you've been making?

Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments on my little sweater.

For those who have asked who will get this sweater.... I'm not sure. Our youngest daughter is expecting a baby boy June first so that has been the inspiration for all the little boy sweaters (notice button placement lol). But I don't know how big he will be or when what will fit him. If they fit him at the right time they are probably his, if not I don't know. We have a Farmers Market here in the summer and the gal who used to own the LYS is in charge of it (she sells knits, plants and whatever) and she has urged me to have a booth. I've never had much that I haven't made from a pattern (except a bunch of hats) so not wanted to do that, but if I ever accumulate some of my own stuff I may try that.

What an adorable little sweater!

We still don't know if this DGC is a boy or a girl, but you sure have given me some great inspiration for a boy.
