I made this little set for dh's cousin's new baby boy. I wanted it to fit him next winter, so used my 11-month old to fit.

This was my first time using Knit Picks yarn, swapped with another member here a little while ago. It's wool of the andes, Dune Twist colour. I really like it, very soft for 100% wool.

The hat pattern I made up of 1x1 ribbing & stocking stitch. Used the Basic Knitted Hat Formula from Mielke's Fiber Arts (http://www.mielkesfarm.com/bsic_hat.htm) with dimensions from Bev's Country Cottage (http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/size-chart.html).

The scarf is the Super-Fast, Ultra-Cozy scarf (http://sageyarn.blogspot.com/2008/10/jump-start-for-hollydaze.html). CO 10 sts with size 8's, and added a keyhole at one end so it could fit snugly under a baby coat without too much bulk.

And the super cute, adorable, easy-peasy to make mitts are the Sucky Thumb mitts. They're a free Ravelry Pattern (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sucky-thumb-mitts). I love love love these. Corban didn't want to take them off. I'll be making him his own pair, even though it's spring. We'll have enough chilly weather yet to make them worth it, and I knit them up in just a couple of hours.

Thanks for looking!

Wonderful work Angie! The yarn is very handsome, and I'd buy it in a heartbeat! The baby.....yummy! What an adorable thing he is!

PS: I visited the scarf pattern website, and definitely printed it and saved it for later! It's a great patten for chunky, bulky mega yarn!
The pattern looks so cool with BIG yarn! Thanks for the link!

Angie, I quickly copied off the mittens pattern for both my DGD, and the new one due in August. Thank you!

I just thought I'd mention that as cute as it is I don't think a scarf for a very young child is a good idea. Scarves can get caught on things very easily and babies and small children can't free themselves or even alert you. I felt this was important enough to tell you my thoughts.

Good thought, Jan! A keyhole scarf could cinch up and become a 'noose'. The mother would need to keep a close watch on her baby with any scarf around the neck, which I'm sure she will do! Babies like to tug on anything they get their little mitts on! Even pacifiers attached to a cord hanging around the neck to prevent the pacifier falling onto the floor. My daughter's have done that. I wasn't smart enough. I just carried lots of spares! :teehee: But now that I think about it, I was smarter than I realized.

It's hard to anticipate all the perils a baby or toddler can fall into!
But we try, don't we! I sometimes wonder how I managed to raise 5! Oy.

Thanks Jan for mentioning that. When I looked at the picture I thought, in this order;
WHAT an adorable Baby.
WHAT a cute set .
WHAT are they doing putting a scarf around that baby's neck!!

So I agree it's all so cute but please, do away with the scarf!

You know, I've got 3 young kids. I'm such a stickler for safety. It never even occurred to me, the dangers of a scarf on a baby. Isn't that terrible?! Thank you so much for the words of warning, and for being kind about it instead of jumping down my throat. I haven't given it yet, so I'll remove the scarf.

I'll have that yarn, plus I've got about a 1/2 skien of it left... any ideas on something else I can put with it? A small toy, maybe?

I got some cute photos out of it at least!

That little baby is so cute. I love the hat and mitts. A scarf for a little one scares me a little, looks like a noose. I hope it will be safe.

Love the hat and mitts :happydance: I'm glad you decided to go with something else in place of the scarf
