View Full Version : SOAKERS (AKA Diaper Covers)

Hi All,

Well, I learned to "knit" (not even pearl) about two years ago, and made a scarf. Then I didn't knit anything until now, and I made these soakers for my little five week old daughter. I used the videos from this site to learn how to do everything...they are very helpful. :-D The original pattern (from www.curlypurly.com) was to knit in the round, but I didn't have that type of needle so I used straight needles. The pink one is my first attempt (made it with large needles and then felted) and the cream one is more like the original pattern, used smaller needles and it fits better.

Good job. You were pretty clever to figure out how to convert the pattern to straight needles.

Thanks. Just bought a new lens for my camera...I love it! I am also a photographer. It was fun to make the soakers.

Oh, just in case you might try and make these, make sure to use either 100 percent merino wool or at least 80 percent wool. then after making them, you must lanolize them to make them water resistant. wool is an excellent material for diaper covers, as it lets the skin breathe, retains up to 30 percent of its own weight in moisture (holds some of what the cloth diaper cannot), is naturally antibacterial, and is water resistant when lanolized. Anyway, there is info online about all of that, just a heads up. :-D HAPPY KNITTING!!

I really like these. Good job! I'd make some myself if I wasn't using all-in-ones!

Yes I've heard a lot of good things about the all in ones. Those seem like a good option as well. I love scrapping, too! How old are your little ones?
